marguerite_26: (Merlin - Pants down)

It’s Friday. Time for a comment fest writing experiment thingy, I think.

While we were editing Four in the Morning, [livejournal.com profile] magnolia822, [livejournal.com profile] xsmoonshine and I were chatting about how we could have an entire fest based on “SOMEONE BEING NAKED MADE THEM DO IT.”

And since it’s Friday and I’m looking for a reason not to write the fic I’m working on right now, let’s do this.

All fandoms and pairings welcome.*
Leave a prompt with a pairing, including (if you like) who/why/how (re: the nudity).

Both art and fic are always welcome for fills.

Nudity can be interpreted as you like. There are no must-be-bare-arsed police here. Just as long as at least one character is ~exposed (voluntary or not) during the fic.

*If you prompt for Avengers, please warn for spoilers.

Uhm, I think it will take a bit more than that to finish this piece. It kinda grows inside my head like a kitten - you turn away for a moment, and it's bigger already. Hope no one minds :)

Part 2.1.

* * *

The last week before the summer is a frenzy of visits, balls and parties – the aristocracy of London tries to make the most of it before most of them leave the capital for the peace and quiet of their country estates. Arthur can find no excuses to look like a hermit so ne misses several more performances of Hamlet and feels quite brittle about that.

When he finally makes it to the theatre, it’s during the day, not for a performance but for a reheardal. Director Gaius thinks it’d be good to cheer their faithful spectators up after so much of rama in Hamlet so he chooses one of Arthur’s early works that’s been on stage some years before, The Two Gentlemen of Verona. It’s a frilly flippant thing and Arthur considers it a reasonable choice.

The actors are wearing what, presumably, they usually do and Merlin wears a colourful scarf again. Frankly speaking, Arthur suspected at their first meeting, when he hired Merlin upon Gaius’s recommendation, that it was an attempt to dress up to impress the theatre owner but apparently Merlin doesn’t care much about impressing anyone at all.

He’s Silvia, the proud and beautiful daughter of the duke of Milan, and Arthur can’t blame Leon, i.e. Proteus, for throwing Julia out of his heart in favour of Merlin because Mordred who plays Julia has an ominous and scary habit of staring and keeping silent. With Julia as a disguised witness of what is going on between Proteus and Silvia Mordred does both things a lot and the only one who feels comfortable with that is Merlin. The latter seems to be comfortable with everything, relaxed and cheerful unlike that evening when he was all prickly with Arthur. It hurts unexplicably as if Arthur really needs Merlin’s honest appreciation. He needs no such thing; it’s the other way round things like this should go.

“Oh,” says Merlin jumping from the scene to the now empty pit and noticing Arthur. “You’re here. Did you like the rehearsal?”

“Your giant ears render all Silvia’s righteous anger quite ridiculous,” says Arthur. Merlin does not possess exclusive rights for prickliness, does he now? “Though I suppose you’ll be wearing a wig for the performance so it’s a moot point.”

“How is it that every time I start to think that maybe you are a decent person you go and prove that you are a right prick?” Merlin’s flushed once again but it’s because of the anger now.

“You can’t address me like that,” Arthur reminds without thinking properly over his words.

When was the last time he didn’t think properly over his words? He cannot remember.

“I can address you the way I like.” Merlin shiffs indignantly. Arthur can’t see his neck under this shapeless scarf and it’s irritating. “What are you, the king of England?”

Well, it is pretty close. Closer than Arthur cares to admit. He is the second in the line to the throne. Not that Merlin needs to know that.

“Though of course, you’re some aristocracy in disguise.”

Arthur flinches at that and Merlin sees it.

“For pity’s sake,” Merlin shakes his head, “there’s no one here who doesn’t know you’re some kind of nobility having fun out of your normal life. We may be ugly big-eared peasants here but we are not dumb, mr Shakespeare.”

Merlin suddenly looks drained by the argument and after a moment’s hesitation he turns away and starts walking to the exit.

Arthur thinks of calling him but just when he makes up his mind there’s some unknown fellow hugging Merlin briefly and clapping him on the back.

“Done with your rehearsal, mate? Come on, we haven’t got all day.”

“Hi, Will. We have, in fact,” Merlin sounds grumpy and fond. Arthur finds that he cannot share the feeling as one look is enough to dislike this Will person passionately. Must be something in his face; some faces are just made by God to be hated just like some other ones are made to be adored and admired. “Come on.”

They leave and Merlin doesn’t look at Arthur again once.
