I had the honour of remixing for the incredibly talented frayach. After several weeks of panicking (anyone who says they would not have wibbled over that assignment is lying), I found my inspiration in Bound Skerry:

We never speak of news from the mainland. I have never learned whether my parents survived their sentences in Azkaban, and I don’t know how Potter spends his days. Whether he’s married or single. Whether he has children. I am ignorant of these basic facts, but nonetheless I bare my soul to him and lay pieces of myself at his feet like bits of shell and sea glass. Like a dog retrieving pieces of driftwood. The more I give to him, the more he takes home with him, carrying me, a molecule at a time, away from Bound Skerry. After he leaves, I imagine him in a featureless flat, ascetic and bachelorly, sitting on a bed and untying his laces. The sand on these islands works itself into every crack and crevice, clinging to the weave of a jumper and collecting in the bottoms of unused teacups in shut cupboards. Bemusedly, he watches as it pours from first one shoe and then the other. Every time he steps on the floor he’ll think of me. A grain of memory working itself into the flesh of his heart.

And thus the irritant becomes the pearl.

I love the mystery that Harry was in this fic, how little Draco knew of him -- this force of nature that controlled every aspect of his life and owned his heart and yet only appeared once a year. The idea that there was a mirror story to Harry’s life, that it wasn’t an empty flat but a loving wife that Harry returned home to. That like Draco, Ginny was trapped in this cyclical torture of Harry’s presence and absence.

And well, if I was going to attempt something as crazy as a Bound Skerry remix, I needed to drag my darling stellamoon along to help me. And she, despite hating angst, read both wrenching tales and delivered some of the most moving pieces I’ve ever seen. I can’t thank you enough, Stella. ♥

And thanks for the humbling comments and recs. You made it worth every word that I cut from my vein on this one.
