My parents left this morning. We had a lovely visit, Mr. M and I managed to even get out on a date (a Martini party! *is hung-over*)
I'm very behind on things around lj. So much has gone on that I'd like to talk about, and rather than spam you for the next week, I'm going to cram a bunch into one post. :D
harry_scorpius has had an amazing first week. We are up to 128 watchers, 23 posts in less than a week. We've seen terrific activity for such a new comm. Thanks to everyone that have been posting and talking about it. We even have a new sister comm! A Harry/Scorpius drabble community:
harryscorp100. The lovely mods have posted their first prompt: Fresh start. Fantastic.
hp_nextgen_fest posted their reveals! I totally guess soooo many authors correctly. Eventually. It only took me four guesses to get
snegurochka_lee correct. ;)
I wrote HP Custom Brooms. After writing Seventeen and Parting Gift I really didn't know what to do with another Harry/Scorpius. I hate feeling like I'm writing the same fic over again, so I approached this one completely differently. I thought, let's make Scorpius the most outrageous brat possible and then somehow make it 'work'. And, with terrific advice from my betas, I think it worked… though the path was not smooth. Good advice is worth its weight in gold. Thanks to everyone who recced it and left lovely comments.
nologal,
snarkyscorp,
snegurochka_lee,
okydoky guessed my fic correctly. If you fab ladies leave me a pairing and a prompt and I'll write you a drabble.
faithwood wrote a A (Beginner's) Guide to Fanfiction. It is truly amazing reference guide. A little something for everyone, whether you are struggling with your first fic or stumped on your 50th.
A short excerpt from the section on Writing Sex Scenes
Awkwardness and mistakes are wonderful things. Let your characters make silly mistakes. Let them forget to take their pants off and trip, let them hit their toes on the bed's leg, let them miss their intended target and kiss and touch parts they didn't really plan on touching. Let them be confused. Maybe they want one thing but end up doing something else. Maybe they planned to stop, but then continued. Maybe they planned to continue but then stopped. Let them not know exactly what they're doing, let them forget to think and go by instinct. Let them think and ruin things, let them misinterpret.
It's all great advice, and she lists so many examples of the kinds of things that take a fic to the next level.
In terms of my own writing, I made terrific headway with my 10k fic this week. Well, if deleting the entire third act and re-writing it is 'headway'. Regardless, I think it's better and not worse… so that's a bonus.
Birthdays are coming up for three wonderful friends:
abusing_sarcasm,
anthimaeria and
frankkincense. I respect and admire each of you greatly. Have a fabulous birthday.

Date: 2009-02-09 06:16 pm (UTC)I'm happy to write you any depravity of pairing or prompt you'd like, but I'd hate to massacre your OTP.
So your choice! Just leave me with a prompt or a kink and I'll do my best. ;)

Date: 2009-02-10 02:05 pm (UTC)It was a lot of fun to write, but I have my fingers crossed that you are not going to hate my Teddy like woah. *g*
Also it's kinda more of a ficlet than a drabble... it's a pairing I've always wanted to write so 100 words was not going to cut it.
you like scary wolf!sex, yes?no subject
Date: 2009-02-10 10:03 pm (UTC)No worries. I am definitely not one of those people with inflexible ideas about what each nextgen character should be like. I'm easy. :) And dude, if Teddy is Remusly wolfish? I'm pretty much the happiest person ever.
