My parents left this morning. We had a lovely visit, Mr. M and I managed to even get out on a date (a Martini party! *is hung-over*)

I'm very behind on things around lj. So much has gone on that I'd like to talk about, and rather than spam you for the next week, I'm going to cram a bunch into one post. :D

[livejournal.com profile] harry_scorpius has had an amazing first week. We are up to 128 watchers, 23 posts in less than a week. We've seen terrific activity for such a new comm. Thanks to everyone that have been posting and talking about it. We even have a new sister comm! A Harry/Scorpius drabble community: [livejournal.com profile] harryscorp100. The lovely mods have posted their first prompt: Fresh start. Fantastic.

[livejournal.com profile] hp_nextgen_fest posted their reveals! I totally guess soooo many authors correctly. Eventually. It only took me four guesses to get [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee correct. ;)

I wrote HP Custom Brooms. After writing Seventeen and Parting Gift I really didn't know what to do with another Harry/Scorpius. I hate feeling like I'm writing the same fic over again, so I approached this one completely differently. I thought, let's make Scorpius the most outrageous brat possible and then somehow make it 'work'. And, with terrific advice from my betas, I think it worked… though the path was not smooth. Good advice is worth its weight in gold. Thanks to everyone who recced it and left lovely comments.

[livejournal.com profile] nologal, [livejournal.com profile] snarkyscorp, [livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee, [livejournal.com profile] okydoky guessed my fic correctly. If you fab ladies leave me a pairing and a prompt and I'll write you a drabble.

[livejournal.com profile] faithwood wrote a A (Beginner's) Guide to Fanfiction. It is truly amazing reference guide. A little something for everyone, whether you are struggling with your first fic or stumped on your 50th.

A short excerpt from the section on Writing Sex Scenes
Awkwardness and mistakes are wonderful things. Let your characters make silly mistakes. Let them forget to take their pants off and trip, let them hit their toes on the bed's leg, let them miss their intended target and kiss and touch parts they didn't really plan on touching. Let them be confused. Maybe they want one thing but end up doing something else. Maybe they planned to stop, but then continued. Maybe they planned to continue but then stopped. Let them not know exactly what they're doing, let them forget to think and go by instinct. Let them think and ruin things, let them misinterpret.

It's all great advice, and she lists so many examples of the kinds of things that take a fic to the next level.

In terms of my own writing, I made terrific headway with my 10k fic this week. Well, if deleting the entire third act and re-writing it is 'headway'. Regardless, I think it's better and not worse… so that's a bonus.

Birthdays are coming up for three wonderful friends: [livejournal.com profile] abusing_sarcasm, [livejournal.com profile] anthimaeria and [livejournal.com profile] frankkincense. I respect and admire each of you greatly. Have a fabulous birthday.

Welcome back, hon! Just so you know, I haven't joined the comm, cause my flist is so overrun as it is I can't keep up, but I have been taking sneak peeks every now and again. :-D

Oh, and that reminds me, weren't you going to write a sequel to Parting Gift? I know we talked about it, but I can't remember if you decided to or not. *bats eyelashes* It would be such a good addition to the comm, don't you think? *snickers*

The comm is getting enough activity that I understand completely about not joining. :D

A sequel to Parting Gifts? Funny you should ask... I was just thinking of that this morning with the [livejournal.com profile] harryscorp100 prompt: Fresh Start. The porn bunnies are hopping.

But 10k first!!! Stop tempting me. *g*

You definitely haven't been writing the same H/Sc fic over and over again by my count. And HP Custom Brooms was one of my favourite stories of the fest.

Congrats on your week. It sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Thank you. I really do have a hard time writing a pairing twice unless there is clear difference in the premise or characterization of the fic. With Harry/Scorpius it is very easy to follow the natural pattern of Scorpius seduces best friends father, or similar.

I mean I like the premise, I love the stories that get told that follow that pattern... I just sometimes want to turn it on its head. :D

Some of the best stories are the ones that turn the 'usual premises' on their heads. I was just commenting to Abstract Concept the other day that no one ever seems to write 'Harry seduces Scorpius' stories.

Thanks, babe. I was thrilled that you got to read it before the reveals!!! I think my warnings or my pairings have scared you off every other fest. lol.

I saw you rec! OMG! *tackleglomp* I'm soooooo pleased you like it so much. YAY! Thank you!

What do think?

http://community.livejournal.com/harry_scorpius/

Would you rather the headding be 'Sister comm' or 'Drabble comm'
or something?

Let me know it's a simple change.

also? Fresh Start inspired a 3k fic this morning. LOL. I'll have to just post to harry_scorpius as I obviously blew the 100 word limit harryscorp100. d'oh!

Uhm, Sister comm maybe?

And nice one! I still expect a drabble from you though *is a wicked taskmaster*

A prompt! Ummm. I hate to give you Harry/Scorpius, actually. :) What else do you write? I'm new here, alas! Can I make you write Snape/Lupin, or would that send you screaming? :)

Date: 2009-02-09 06:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com
lol. my horrid attempt at Snape/Lupin might send you screaming. *g* I've never ever attempted either character, haha!

I'm happy to write you any depravity of pairing or prompt you'd like, but I'd hate to massacre your OTP.

So your choice! Just leave me with a prompt or a kink and I'll do my best. ;)

Date: 2009-02-09 06:32 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] snegurochka_lee
lol, fair enough. How about Teddy/James, then? Or Scorpius/anyone else? (Not that I don't like Harry, as you know, but just, to mix things up). :) Prompt, um... 'bullet-proof.' :)

wow, lj newbie, wut? *does not know how to reply to comments apparently* :/

From: [identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com
Teddy/James it is! I wrote it last night. lol.
It was a lot of fun to write, but I have my fingers crossed that you are not going to hate my Teddy like woah. *g*

Also it's kinda more of a ficlet than a drabble... it's a pairing I've always wanted to write so 100 words was not going to cut it.

you like scary wolf!sex, yes?

Date: 2009-02-10 10:03 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] snegurochka_lee
YES I DO. ;ALKSJDG.

No worries. I am definitely not one of those people with inflexible ideas about what each nextgen character should be like. I'm easy. :) And dude, if Teddy is Remusly wolfish? I'm pretty much the happiest person ever.
