My [livejournal.com profile] hp_nextgen_fest is done!!! I'll be emailing it off as soon as I get the head nod from my beta's last review. YAY!

Now I'm looking to the future. [livejournal.com profile] hp_sas is certainly my summer project, but I think I want to sneak in a spring fest first.

But which???

Is there a [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup this year? The comm doesn't have anything on timing for sign-ups in 2009 or how writers are going to be chosen this year. How did it work last year? just a lottery?

Also, I had a ton of fun reccing and voting last year and I would really miss that if I participated in the fest. Not reccing great fics might make me go CRAZY!

The timing for [livejournal.com profile] hds_beltane works well. And I like the first-come-first serve decision the mod made. of course I know nothing of beltane or maypoles or... anything. Do you think the posting is going to coinside with the world cup again? Because that sucks a bit, but Beltane is May 1 so that's pretty much set in stone being a Beltane fest, yeah?

[livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut just announced it is accepting apps. My last two fests were 'rare pair' types and frankly I don't know if I can handle another fest writing god-knows-who. With [livejournal.com profile] hp_sas, all the combos are rare-pairs but at least I know I'll be happy to write/recieve any of them.

Sorry for all the babbling... I'm just feeling indecisive.

Any other spring fests that you guys recommend? I wasn't writing fic or reading fests last year at this time so this is all new to me. As a matter of fact I remember thinking why is [livejournal.com profile] hd_prophet reccing all these 'anon' authors? Why are all these authors not taking credit for their work?

:D Some things I don't like to make up, have to say. I'd love to have some canon tidbits on Scorpius.

I always give him a late november birthday. It's weird to name him after one of the horoscope constellations if it's not his, yes? It's like naming your daughter April when she's born in November or something.

*headdesk* Yes, his birthday should be in late Oct or Nov. That is perfect. *you're a smart cookie*

He could be a Scorpio, for all we know, which is, null ;-).

But I would never assign date of birth, going by just his name. Astrological signs are different than name of months, like April. Based on the facts that wizards do learn astronomy and divination, also that they seem to hold the astrological insights of the Centaurs in high esteem, I doubt names are given just by date of birth. Draco would be named Gemini then, not Draco, which is also a very important sign, just not one of the zodiac signs.

All of which, obviously, just part of my astro-fetish.

No, I agree, but by similar reasoning, it would be strange to give that name to Scorp if he wasn't a Scorpius. Draco's name isn't a sign so they don't have to take into account birthdate/sign when naming him (same with Narcissa and Bellatrix and Sirius...). But Scorp's name is and everyone would know it. That awareness might just make it more strange to give him an astrological sign name that's out of step with his actual sign.

I stand by my reasoning!! lol But no one else needs to, obviously! ;)

Argued like a true Ravenclaw. :D

What I meant is, that the signs hold meaning, and perhaps when naming a child, those meanings are invoked. Thus, naming Draco is meant it to give him the qualities of the sign Draco, same when naming Scorpius, whenever he is born, is meant to give him the qualities of Scorpio. Hm, now I wonder if there are traditions about wizarding naming. *plot bunnies hops by*

Ah, that's interesting too... *ponders* Though if this is the case, then what does that mean for Draco's opinion of the sign Scorp IS born under? *ponders more* Oh the fun of fandom and knowing people who take it all too seriously, just like I do! *hugs you*

Also ha! because when I read your comment I realized I wrote Scorpius instead of Scorpio. I do that all the time now and my husband is a Scorpio. lol

It is my joy and pleasure to take it all too seriously *is me* :-)

Did Draco name Scorpius? And what is his or Astoria's or the wizarding world's take on Scorpio? Now that would be interesting to know. Obviously, naming Scorpius after Scorpio would imply that they hoped to give the child some dark, intuitive strengths, deep-water qualities, some powerful magic and sexual allure, too - all of this Scorpio implies to me.

*lol* I cannot tell you how often I've now written Scorpius instead of Scorpio in non-fandom related circles ;-).

Well, I'm assuming that it was Draco's idea to follow Black tradition of naming after constellations but yes, it could be Astoria who suggested it or perhaps pushed for the tradition. I always just assumed it would be Draco. But then, it seems like Narcissa named Draco or at least it's her family tradition they followed with the naming...

Plus, then he can be 18 in his last year at Hogwarts. Good for those of us who like the of age sexing. That, as it happens, is also why my Albus was born in September.... ;)
