Fest Indecisions!!!!

My hp_nextgen_fest is done!!! I'll be emailing it off as soon as I get the head nod from my beta's last review. YAY!

Now I'm looking to the future. hp_sas is certainly my summer project, but I think I want to sneak in a spring fest first.

But which???

Is there a hd_worldcup this year? The comm doesn't have anything on timing for sign-ups in 2009 or how writers are going to be chosen this year. How did it work last year? just a lottery?

Also, I had a ton of fun reccing and voting last year and I would really miss that if I participated in the fest. Not reccing great fics might make me go CRAZY!

The timing for hds_beltane works well. And I like the first-come-first serve decision the mod made. of course I know nothing of beltane or maypoles or... anything. Do you think the posting is going to coinside with the world cup again? Because that sucks a bit, but Beltane is May 1 so that's pretty much set in stone being a Beltane fest, yeah?

hp_springsmut just announced it is accepting apps. My last two fests were 'rare pair' types and frankly I don't know if I can handle another fest writing god-knows-who. With hp_sas, all the combos are rare-pairs but at least I know I'll be happy to write/recieve any of them.

Sorry for all the babbling... I'm just feeling indecisive.

Any other spring fests that you guys recommend? I wasn't writing fic or reading fests last year at this time so this is all new to me. As a matter of fact I remember thinking why is hd_prophet reccing all these 'anon' authors? Why are all these authors not taking credit for their work?

hd_inspired might do a spring fest. Last year their animagus fest was in the spring. You could ask Jamie2109. Also there's the next gen big bang - you have to write at least 20K for that though.

And oh, all the upcoming fest announcements are making me itchy because I promised myself I'd only do 2 fests next year. I have too much else on my plate and the whole deadline/prompt/writing for other people thing has seriously sucked my creativity away. And since I'll probably save a spot for hols, that means only one fest!!
Though I might offer pinch hitting depending on my mood.

But I love festing! It's so fun - I love the sense of community you get from it. So tempting....

lol Well, there is a Draco/Albus I've been wanting to write with the summer. If you can get my a recipient who wants a darkish Draco/Albus, I'm all yours!

You'll have to check with the hd_inspired mods, but I believe they have staked out the time that they used for this last fest. Writing in late spring and summer, posting in September.

I didn't even know there was a next_gen fest. I shall add it to my reading list. Not that I would have participated, because I was totally overwhelmed.

The only spring fest I signed up for was drapery_snarco, because I've got a thing for Snape/Harry/Draco right now. And it's prompt claiming, so no worries about writing something I don't want, or towards someone else's needs. Last day for sign-up is today and stories are due February 15th.

Other than that, I think Snarry Games will probably be my only other spring/summer fest. I just want to work on my own (massive) bunny for a while.

I do love that kind of 'choose your own prompt' fest. but the timing is off. I can't start writing for a fest until mid January and I need more than a month to write something, I think.

No birthdate on the Lexicon - haven't seen any mention of the date anywhere else, though I haven't spent a lot of time looking. All we know is he's eleven in September, 2017.

i'm going kind of mad thinking of how many stories i have yet to read from all the fests that started posting while i was on vacation for the last 3 weeks. there are at least 5 fests that i need to catch up on, ack!

I am having the same problem! So many shiny fests, not enough time!!

I was initially planning on signing up for hp_springsmut but... I'm definitely doing hp_rarities again this year and I've decided smut really isn't my strong point, so I think I'll give hp_springsmut a miss.

I'd LOVE to write for hd_worldcup this year, too!

I'm also hoping hd_inspired are going to do a spring round, because I had so much fun with the Autumn round this year and I found the prompt claiming format to be less stressful than an exchange.

I won't be doing hds_beltane, because:
a) I will be away at New Year, so Jan 1st doesn't really work for me.
b) I have no interest in writing Snarry, Snaco or a threesome. Yes, I know I could write H/D, but...
c) (the main reason for not signing up) I don't know anything about/am not really interested in the beltane theme.

So yeah, no hds_beltane for me.

And it seems, in the midst of writing this long-arse comment, I have decided upon signing up for hp_rarities, hd_worldcup and (if running) hd_inspired.

I agree with the prompt claiming format. I enjoyed getting 'inspired' by a prompt and claiming it. It saved spending the first 3 weeks trying to come up with an idea. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the spring fest have that format.

Beltane is not limited to the Beltane holiday, but to any of the major pagan holidays.

I actually had a lot of fun doing the research last year and ended up using the info in my Beltane and my Spring hd_inspired story.

I think my two fests will be hp_sas and hd_inspired.

Now, I am incredibly biased, but I think you should sign up for hp_springsmut :D We're first-come, first-served and filling up FAST (we're up to something like 60 already, out of 90), whereas Worldcup will likely be elite again this year. Now you might make it in, of course, but it would suck to decide to do Worldcup and have it not work out. I would personally feel restricted by hds_beltane, but that's not to say you would.

Plus, you know, Springsmut has awesome mods :P

Oh, and H/D threesomes are allowed, b/c the third person makes it rare (and the focus of the fic can't be H/D). So that lends you some variety within the rarepair construction.

The only other Spring fest I know is HP Crossover fest, which is lovely (and modded by a good friend), but not for those who don't like crossovers.
