He wonders about Derek's plans, if—once he has Stiles fooled—Derek will rip his throat out.
The thoughts might seem paranoid, except that's exactly what Stiles did to Peter.

This is a great psychological fic. It flips from present to past throughout, explaining the story of just how Stiles got to be Alpha instead of Derek. While the story does have bamf Stiles, he is still vulnerable, insecure and very ~Stiles. He’s reluctant to lead, reluctant to trust (especially Derek). And with good reason. He’s well acquainted with betrayal as it’s how he got to be alpha in the first place. The fic explores sex as a weapon, both how Kate used it to betray Derek, how Stiles used it to betray Peter and the emotional mess left behind by both as Derek and Stiles try to trust each other. It’s really wonderfully done, complex and compelling with an interesting plot moving things along nicely.

A lovely fic if you are looking to have your heart ripped out and put back together. Stiles makes a mistake for all the right reasons and the consequences are a completely new reality that he’s not sure he can live in but also can’t give up.
