I almost walked into a hornets' nest picking up my kids at bus stop this afternoon.

Walking into a literal hornet's nest. NOT COOL

I've walked into plenty of figurative ones in my day. Those weren't cool either.

ugh, I am sympathy flailing rn. Sometimes I am glad to live in a cold country so long as there are fewer large evil buzzing death merchants.

It totally would have been. Especially because I was walking with my kids at the time. They would have been traumatized, I think. D:

It's not on our property so Mr. M went out to the owners and told them: I'm homing back tonight after dark and getting rid of that thing.

It's attached to the Stop sign at the kids bus stop. :/

Funny story: I actually did walk into a hornet's nest (well, on top of a nest of mud wasps but it's pretty much the same thing) as a kid with my girl scout troupe as we were hiking in the local woods. Everyone got stung but me. Two girls actually went to the hospital! So, I escaped the worst of it because as usual, I was lollygagging at the back of the pack. Yeah, I thought I dodged that bullet until the following day, when still camping/hiking in the same area, I stopped to take a drink of water. With my arm lifted, a wasp flew into my sleeve and when I put my arm down proceeded to sting me over and over in my armpit. Fucking Ouch!!Ice packs under the arm pit for two days.

Apropos of nothing, I know but you almost walking into a hornet's nest reminded me of that so vividly!

OK, not funny but even at the time I found it highly ironic that I escaped the big swarm only to get stung the next day! I think I was about 8 or 9 at the time.

Give me a bee over a wasp/hornet ANY day. I once had a hornet sting me in the leg while I was in bed! It left a hole in my leg the size of the head of a pin! I mean on the grand scheme of things, that's not a giant wound but it swelled up to look like half a softball with this hole in the top. Now that hurt!! Bees, are nothing in comparison, I have been stung by them dozens of times in my life (I used to walk to school through the woods and then a really overgrown field. Bees everywhere, they used to get caught in my clothes and fly into my boots as I lifted my legs. It got so that a sting from a bee was less annoying than a mosquito bite cuz it would sting for a few seconds then be gone.)

Wasps are evil!!

That reminds me about my dad, we had hornets’ nest in our roof, we call for fireman, but they want to destroy these boards under the roof, anyway my dad decided he can deal with it by himself. So he wore that special hat and clothes, took tennis racket, sprayed the nest and then killed like 30 hornets with his tennis racket. Nope, my family isn't normal...

How do you even kill a hornet with a tennis racket?

I have no idea xD But apparently it's quite possible and effective xD
I'm scared of hornets like hell and I'm like "DAD! Omg, there is hornet in my room, omg, I can't leave, he is flying near the door, please come and save me!" XD
