fuckyeah recced this yesterday and thankyouthankyouthankyou because it was so good and I had completely missed it.

Summary: Like most teenage boys, Merlin's life revolved around Call of Duty and putting a minimal amount of effort into school to get the maximum result, while dedicating his remaining free time to more important pursuits, like getting laid. He was doing pretty well for himself, considering he was kind of funny looking and definitely not popular. Then Arthur Pendragon came long and fucked it all up. (Well, there was also Gwaine. Dammit. He might as well start there.)

This fic has great humour without being crack. Merlin is self-deprecating without ever being a pathetic figure. It has absolutely no morals in terms of the rather ‘light’ take on the potentially squicky bits of its ‘sex in exchange for homework’ theme and its matter of fact way of mentioning Merlin's occasional punches in the face and it’s all the better for it. It had the potential to be dark, but nicely veers away from it because of how well done Merlin's POV is. The result is hot and funny and oddly romantic. Silly teenage boys and their ability to make a mess of things. And the last sex scene is just brain melting hot.

Yeaaaaah, I read this after your rec and was like "AJHJHSJHAHH FUUCK OH MY GOD". still have to make a rec which isn't a "flail all over the place" entry. :D It captures that romcom high school movie feel perfectly. And that Merlin is a ~nerd~ but gets some on the side, was pretty fabulous. and DECENT JOCK ARTHUR. yes. i like tropes, but i also like trope subversions!!! And the sex, but mostly their interactions and that huge tantrumy fight?! Awesome!! (and very teenager-esque.)

Perfect for summer.
