hee! I understand what you mean, but also there is something about comment fests (the casual feel and complete lack of commitment) that I think people need to be inspired sometimes. Fandoms can get choked with responsibilities and I think fandoms benefit from a bit of spontaneity. Even if something like this might be great and popular as a full-on 'fest' with a submission date, it would just add to the pile and you lose a bit of the community feel that spur-of-the-moment comment fests have.
It's more like standing on my lawn and out of nowhere inviting my neighbours over for a barbecue for no reason at all. not everyone can come, but those that do hopefully have a good time and talk to someone they haven't talked to in a while. It'd not better or worse than a proper dinner with a formal invite and lots of notice. But it has its place.
(not that I've given this a lot of thought.... -_- )
But I was not fully thinking of a fest with deadlines that are choking you :P
I used to be a member of a digital art community, and we used to have a forum, or something like that, and have monthly challenges, or just challenges for fun. I think I came across something like that in the writng community as well, but I wonder if it was a monthly thing, and that means there is a deadline :(
There should exsist a no stress mini prompt fest/challenge, for all fandoms, pairings, etc...

Actually, I think there are. There are tons of them (well, fandom specific ones, or kink specific ones at least). I love the ~idea of them but yet I find I never join them because there is not really that 'thing' that makes me stop and say this month I'll participate when the last two months I scrolled past. I just end up scrolling because it quickly becomes 'that thing I never bother with'.
That might be just me... but it's exactly why I do these comment fests. I do them because they work for me. They get me inspired, and connect me with my friends, and get me back onto LJ (rather than hiding somewhere and writing all on my lonesome, posting the occasional rec). They don't always get a big turn out, but the popularity is a bonus. The point (for me) is the fun of re-connecting with friends.

Date: 2012-06-01 10:09 pm (UTC)Commentfests stress me out way more than fests with due dates do! LOL
I don't do spontaenous writing very well at ALL!
I do like monthly prompts - where I can roll an idea around my mind for a month planning before I write.
