Date: 2012-05-31 05:21 pm (UTC)Merlin pauses, gaping. He is looking at something spectacular. Something flawless. Something dangerous. More dangerous than a thousand dragons swooping in for the kill. More dangerous than magic gone awry.
It is Arthur he looks at. Arthur in the nude. Arthur on his bed. Arthur with his legs spread and his pretty blond head thrown back and his back arched and his prick in his taut fist, jerking. It is Arthur and it is somehow more than Arthur, because Arthur, alone, is never vulnerable. He is always strong and brave and wise and fair, and there has never been a time that Merlin has underestimated his king. But now, seeing Arthur like this, everything is changed.
Like this, Arthur is vulnerable. It turns Merlin on to see him so out of control, so wild. There is nothing Merlin wouldn't do for him in this moment except leave. Please, he thinks, don't make me leave.
It is inevitable that Arthur will realise he's not alone. It takes five minutes though. Five long, beautiful, exquisite, torturous minutes watching his brave king lose himself to ecstasy, and five intense minutes spent with his jaw clenched tight and his fingers curled on the pile of linens he'd brought with which to change Arthur's sheets. When Arthur looks up and sees him, Merlin certainly expects to be yelled at. To be reprimanded. To be sent away to muck his bloody stables and polish the shit on his boots with his tongue.
Instead, their eyes meet. Arthur pauses. Merlin tries to come up with excuses - gods, he has a million of them just waiting to flood his tongue, but his mouth is so dry, his throat tight. He cannot speak. And Arthur doesn't seem to want him to.
Merlin takes a tentative step forward. His breath is short. "I didn't... I only wanted to... I'm sorry." He laughs. He is beside himself. Arthur's hand is still wrapped around his length, the swollen head drizzled with precome and gods, why can't Merlin just kneel before him and lick it off? "I should go."
Before he can turn to leave, Arthur calls, "Stop," in a dark voice that Merlin almost doesn't recognise.
"Sire?" he asks, his own voice low.
"How long have you been standing there?"
Merlin's face is getting warm. All of him is getting warm. He wants to gape but tries to keep his eyes on Arthur's. "A few minutes," he says, honestly.
"Then it cannot hurt to stay a few minutes more."
Arthur's fist begins to move again. Merlin stands. Merlin watches.
