Livejournal Scrapbook is going away. Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. [Please see More Info below on this] If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.

+ You will no longer have access to your [OLD] Scrapbook once this goes live.
+ Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different.
+ Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit.
+ Back up your Scrapbook just in case.
+ If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

ETA:
So, the original source for the information above is now no longer available AND the link to the English translation of what will happen makes no mention of 10GB Scrapbook users being taken down to 2GB. I suggest taking the above info with a grain of salt and suggest not reposting it until we know more information directly from LJ.

FINAL ETA:
LJ has come out to confirm that the available size of your Scrapbook WILL NOT BE IMPACTED by this. The above information was incorrect (whether because of a poor translation or misinformation on LJs part, it's unclear). But the re-blogging that happened of this info helped, and continues to help perpetuate this incorrect information.

Will I still have the same amount of storage space for my images?

Yes, all account levels will retain the same storage space levels as before, including if you've purchased the extra storage space add-on. These levels are not being reduced.

I'm panicking now. How do I back stuff up?! When will it happen? What will happen to all my entries which got art and shit in it?!

Shit. I use the scrapbook for everything. It's pretty much the sole reason I pay for my account. This is a nightmare for anyone who runs a comm.

yup. I'm actually going to delete anything 'personal' that I have uploaded to scrapbook. I just don't trust their converting anything flocked to private. OH GOD.

Wow. LJ just keeps stabbing its loyal, longtime users in the back again and again. Interesting business strategy, I must say.

It's fascinating to watch, really. Painful to be a part of, but fascinating nonetheless.

Is this perhaps the reasons why my header looks so weird? *sigh*

I suppose so. :(

Is all our [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair and [livejournal.com profile] hd_career_fair stuff hosted off LJ?

I think our Kinkfest banners are on LJ, but they are just for pimping so it'll be an easy enough fix if LJ messes up the links.

Fan Fair banners are hosted off LJ. And I think the Kinkfest banners, too.
Navigations strips are looking off for me at [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair. I start suspecting it has something to do with which lay-out is used.

Oh god, what /o\

Why do they even do this stupid shit? *headdesking forever*

Also! Did you manage to switch your pics to private? When I try, I just get this horrible funky old-school broken-html looking page with no way to make things private.

:/ I found the interface weird too. so I just deleted everything in my 'personal' gallery, then deleted the gallery. lol. Not risking LJ letting pics of my kids out for public viewing, thx.

This doesn't really affect me but I can easily see how it would have huge implications.

Ugh, LJ.

Thank God I only discovered there was a scrapbook on LJ about 2 weeks ago! I've always hosted all my pics elsewhere and linked them in. Photobucket is super easy because LJ must have some deal with them where you can just directly paste from one of your photobucket photo albums right into your posts and some comments without having to go get the url yourself!

oh man, that sucks. i don't (and have never actually, come to think of it) used LJ scrapbook but i can imagine what a right pain this must be for so, so many people. :(

I saw your post linked in multiple journals. The posts you originally got this from are locked. I don't see any source saying we are being downgraded from 10GB to 2GB.

Can you tell me where you got this info? It's really getting people panicked.

Hmm... That's a good question. The posts links above have all either been deleted, or make no mention of it.

I can't say for certain why that is.

Possibly there was an issue with the translation that's now been fixed. Zeitgeistic had written the original version of this which simply got shared over and over.

That original post seemed to line up with the english version, but i can't say for certain. I don't think anyone was try to create panic by sharing this info, only looking to tell people about the transfer so they could back up pics if they were worried about something being lost.

I'm not doubting the translators were doing their best. Oh no, I doubt anyone at SUP was trying to cause panic--I just don't think they cared very much if that was the end result. It was a bad move for SUP to make an announcement to the RU side before they could also post an English translation. That will always lead to misunderstandings and panic for the English users of LJ. And probably not much fun for other language users who don't have a good grasp of English or Russian.

At this point, after these many years of SUP, I doubt it's just stupid customer service, but, at minimum, a disregard for the English user base (that I bet they regard as primarily USians), if not a degree of contempt.

I think you are right but that wrong info about a downgrading from 10GB to 2GB (2GM is standard with paid option to upgrade to 10GB) has panicked folk.

They should have made the annoucements at the same time.

Date: 2012-05-02 03:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] caersidi.livejournal.com
It is completely misinformation - paid users have 2GB Scrapbook space with an option to pay for 10GB (think it is an annual payment as with extra user icons) LJ News also did say there would be no downgrading of space and that those who had paid for extra GB would keep those.

People are panicking for no reason whatsoever.

I agree. And I updated the above with the correct information and the linked to LJ's announcement. Unfortunately, the re-blogging of the original post has gotten out of hand. I've been attempting to link people to the correct info as I get pinged that this has been post has been re-blogged.

Sounds like you've done the right thing. Those pings can come in handy.

It is amazing how this has spread so quickly with people getting the wrong end of the stick and some getting quite upset.

I accessed a few of the posts and pointed out that this was misinformation but I expect that it will take a few days to die down.
