After our interesting discussion about AO3 yesterday a few people were asking for codes. I think everyone who wanted one got matched with someone who had one (it felt a bit like e-Harmony for awhile there)... but if you are still in need of an invite send me a PM. I have a bunch now.

ALSO [livejournal.com profile] jelazakazone mentioned the handiness of including links back your LJ post in your AO3 fics.

Since most people agreed that they love reading on A03 and kudos are absolutely fantastic BUT when leaving comments, they prefer LJ... So it makes perfect sense to link back to LJ as an end note in you A03 post.

So we should all start doing that, yes??? :D

ALSO: I am in love with these shoes

How do you link on AO3? Is it the same HTML as on LJ? (I am such a noob)

yup. Same code as lj. Just the <*a href=> code.

And If you but it as a 'end note' it's just in the right spot.

I just tested it with this one:
http://archiveofourown.org/works/358017

And I'm going to go back and do that with all the others I posted.

lol me too. And I was going to do all the useful things today. Guess not :D

ETA: Also, the amount of hits on AO3 is mind boggling. I was expecting maybe five people to read my stuff!

The community aspect of LJ is what makes it so great. I wish the LJ journal pages were more mobile-friendly so we wouldn't have to do the back and forth. Reading and then posting feedback directly on LJ (without needing to bounce back and forth) is what motivated me to get my Kindle Fire in the first place (as opposed to using an ereader, which I already have), but even LJ's friendliest post format is still hard to read on a mobile device, and I haven't found the mobile version of the LJ website to be particularly useful. I wish LJ or someone with some abilities would invest time in developing a good mobile app so we could have the best of both worlds--community & readability--on this platform. :( Until then, I will think about doing the A03 approach with link backs to LJ.

Definitely want to get a pair for my son. :D

Also, when I write for a fest, is about the only time I link back to LJ, thinking it was a bit repetitive on my part to do it on any of the other stories, but I guess not, huh? Thanks for the heads up.

I really like AO3 and find myself reading there is someone posts a fic both here and there. The format is much more comfortable and I love that its so easily downloadable. I find I leave as much feedback there as I do at LJ.

I want those shoes for myself! They're all delightful.

I have 1 open invitation if someone still needs it

and yes, I get warm fuzzies whenever I get a 'kudos' in the mail. It's perfect for those people who just aren't into commenting but want to say "hey, I read this and liked it."

Oh, that's a fantastic idea about linking back from AO3 to LJ. I'll do that the minute I have a bit of time on my hand. Your post yesterday also made me realise that I should get started uploading the looooong fics to AO3. Obviously, they are the ones where the ebook button comes in most handy. :)

omg those shoes! I have spent WAY too long playing about with that site.

Also, all the AO3 talk has shamed me into finishing uploading my Merlin fics there and adding links to both LJ and AO3 posts for people to go back and forth. This will be a mission haha. *determined face on*

But yeah, I do love reading on AO3 both onscreen and with their looovely download function.

Oh, ahahaha. I just finished (mostly) linking all my LJ fics and masterlists to AO3 links. I don't think I can face doing it the other way around as well. Haha. I hadn't even thought of that! I figure if anyone is reading on AO3, it's because they got there from my LJ link and wanted an e-book version. But you're right that they could be at AO3 first and want your LJ.

So complicated. :)

Hmm I find that really interesting, because as a reader, I've always left a comment on AO3 if given a choice. AO3 has always seemed more.. permanent to me, and I thought driving the comment count up would boost a particular fic's profile more. Especially as readers are coming in from all over, not just your friends list or whatever.

Why do people prefer comments on LJ? Is it just the Merlin fandom?

Sherlock fandom, which seems to be primarily based on Tumblr, AO3 and the kink meme doesn't seem to have an LJ presence so maybe it's a particular fandom thing.

If there are any AO3 codes left, I would love one. It might motivate me to start writing again.
