so - I decided for the first time to go completely spoiler free. Which means my reactions is OTT with no chance to really absorb the story that is being told and 'numb' myself to the bits I didn't like or talk coherently about the stuff I did like.

BE WARNED - nonsensical typing while watching reaction to 4.09 after cut.



Liked Arthur in that first scene. v. nice. also pretty.

Let's start off with Morgana knows about Gwen and Lancelot HOW? she didn't know about Gwen crushing on Arthur until S3? and now she's all 'i know everything about Gwen'? IDGI.

Said to Morgana: "You are destined to bring back the old ways."... WHAT???? um... WHAT?

she can bring back a soul from the dead and she doesn't chose her sister?

a wet naked Lancelot is 'yours to command' Morgana and you are going to waste it aren't you?
the arthur/gwen here is very sweet and romantic. :) i approve.

The girl is HUMAN her old love DIED - let her be tempted without FUCKING MAGIC. Well at least it played on already existing emotions and not just Imperioused her into loving him. @_@

GOD - Gwen/Lancelot is fucking ON FIRE in this ep. GOD.

WHY WOULD THEY MEET IN THE THRONE ROOM? WHA?

ARTHUR. Dude - that screaming like a banshee and going at them with a sword at finding them kissing? what was that? I mean wow. That was.. WAY OTT. Obviously he's an 'action' over words kind of guy but that was like... barbaric.

oh... okay... I love this conversation between Merlin and Arthur. They will find you merciful. And it's not a matter of forgiveness but TRUST. that's really well written.

Overall - I'm glad to see a story with Morgana actually 'winning' a round and there be consequences beyond a single episode. I think Angel knocked it our of the park - great range of emotions. I like Arthur's choices here (mostly). I'm annoyed - YET AGAIN - by merlin's refusal to even hint that Morgana was using them all as puppets. I do like that he implied Uncle whatshisnames influence.

But mostly? A great IDEA for an ep that needed a few better choices in writing and directing.

I also think it would have been a hellva lot more cruel for Morgana to MAKE ARTHUR KILL LANCELOT. !!! That would have been HORRIBLE for him to have to live with. You Fail at evil yet again Morgana.

um.. now I'm off to watch it all over again with Mr. M. Might like it better with lower expectations.

I'm just mostly confused by it. Was that even Lance? I thought it could have been a lot stronger if Gwen had been tempted without magic, even if she gave Lance a farewell kiss and that's when Arthur came in but this way, not happy.

i hated this ep,yet i feel it could have been really great and painfull had the writers had the caurage to do what they shyed away from,'a real betrayal'.they should not have had gwen enchanted ,gwen and lancelot never reall dealt with their past or what could have been,the first time lancelot took off,then when they meet again they dealt with it with sillence.lancelot was his first love ,she thought she sent him to his death,lancelot dying reminded her of just how much he loved her, that he would die to save arthur just because she asked him to,am rambling,but this ep was pointless to me ,it seamed like an ep meant to convice us before the wedding on just how much they love each other and that gwen is totally over lancelot,i just don't think it was nacessary to bring a man back from the dead to tell us that.lancelot legacy in camelot as been changed from that of a brave night who gave his life to save camelot to that of a coward who betrayed his king then killed himself,a very sad way to use such a loved character,someone said they used him as moster of the week, i agree and it was so sad.

I basically agree with everything, I feel like this could have been a good episode, but just was gone about all the wrong ways. But I did like Arthur and Gwen's scenes for the most part and Angel was fantastic and broke my heart :(

I was a bit disappointed, I always hoped for a real betrayal from Gwen after they were married, Idk. I wanted to be enraged at her, but this just made me feel sad for her.

I agree with most of what you said,, except the stupid jousting. WHAT!?? I LOVE the jousting! I would be happy if I could have jousting on a daily basis!!!

Also, I totally bought Arthur's reaction to catching them kissing. I guess I was just willing to accept whatever it was going to be. I think I'd have bought it also if he had slumped to the floor and cried, instead!

Oh yes, Gwen and Lance were so very hot here! She didn't totally sell me on all of the crying. Some of it seemed very fake to me. She needs to take lessons from Colin. ;)

I know they've played fast and loose with Arthurian legend all along, but I didn't think they'd go against it this hard! Lance can't come back now, and is totally out of the picture. That's a completely different dynamic than what we are used to from Arthurian legend. Of course, this doesn't bother everyone, I'm sure. Just folks like me who have been obsessed with it for the last 30 years! Looking back now, I recognize it as my first fandom. LOL!!

I was totally thinking the same thing! stalker!Merlin...for the slash fans to play with perhaps? Our obviously gay and utterly in-love-with-his-king little warlock creeping outside the house because he had to know right away if his chances at ever after with his sadly-hetero king are completely blown?

I hated that they went with that dumb bracelet. I think it would have had so much more impact & meaning if the girl had been tempted all on her own. These guys are so damn invested in their image of St Guinevere that it's kinda pathetic. She is human for God's sake! Let her make a few non-spell-induced mistakes like the rest of the damn cast!

The only thing I take comfort in? The idea of Lancelot and Freya scampering around the lake of Avalon together in sort-of-dead adventures :D I wonder if they are going to play on the legend here to bring him back next season. After all, his name in legend was Lancelot du Lac because he was raised by the Lady of the Lake. What if she "raises" him alright...raises him from the dead? Prolly won't happen but it's a thought I had!

It's a little sad that the betrayal and banishment scenes were the most chemistry I think we've seen between Arthur and Gwen. Also, I cannot picture where this is going.

I made myself dizzy nodding through that. Except for the part when I fell out of my chair laughing over Uncle Snape.

Morgana your dress must smell to high heaven by now. Gwen's is not far behind. Nor Merlins's coat and pants.

Gwen, how many times can you say I want/ed to be your queen in one episode and never anything about wanting to be his wife or the mother of his children? Me thinks you have a crown thing going on. Maybe all that enchantment did was make her forget about crowns. Humm. "No crown? I like Lancelot better then."

I really believed that Arthur was heartbroken when Uther died. Tonight he didn't really convince me that he was all that heartbroken. Just angry mostly. With a side of watching too many Ninja movies.

Speaking of enchantment, why did the writers have to use an enchantment? Now we know that Arthur will find out that there was an enchantment and take her back. She won't be nearly as hard to find as Morgana was either. She'll be sitting in Ealdor waiting for them. They might as well banish her for good, she hasn't been allowed to contribute a lot to the show except to show up for kisses since the first season. But still they will bring her back to show up for a kiss every couple episodes. Wait and see. Wasting her time and talent.

After having Lancelot do such a noble thing why bring him back to life and steal it from him? Why not do it the other way around and let him try to redeem himself?

How many friends can Merlin set on fire without having a breakdown?

How can Colin Morgan be so beautiful when he cries and most people get all red, splotchy, and swollen?

She knew that Gwen fancied him right at the beginning and my explanation to myself is that at the end of 2.04 which ended with Gwen being hugged by Morgana (that seems a long time ago) Gwen was so upset that she told Morgana about Lancelot leaving her like that.

And it's not a matter of forgiveness but TRUST. that's really well written.

I LOVED that. This episode could have been so much better with some slightly differet choices by the writer and director, but the acting was stellar.
