I have a whole bunch of recs to write up but um... busy morning.

But I read this in bed last night and almost got up and typed up a rec half awake because I loved this so much so I'm just gonna leave this here... and do rest of the recs when I get my life a bit more organized.

Let Us Dare by kianspo Arthur/Merlin [NC-17] (30k)
Summary: Uther dies instead of Ygraine when Arthur is born. Balinor helps Ygraine secure her position as regent, magic isn’t banned, and Merlin and Arthur grow up side by side. Camelot is different but not cloudless, destiny is still a troublesome thing, and Arthur is still charmingly oblivious when it comes to things that matter most in life.

Canon AU (read summary for details). While I was worried that this might be too fluffy with magic legal and no evil Uther looming over everything or that it would be a kid!fic, it was not at all. It had a fantastic edge to it all, lots of tension and intrigue and action and the fic really pics up about halfway through part I when Arthur is ~16. While it had some retelling of canon events, each one was very distinct from canon, unexpected and engaging in the re-inventing of the events in this AU. And the Arthur/Merlin? Hot as fuck. So many of my favourite tropes: Heroic!Arthur and Powerful!Merlin, UST and complicated friendship and misunderstandings, tattoos, seeing you for the first time in years and you've grown up hot. jealousy... I could go on, but you should just read it.

I don't know who you are anon-author, but I'm totally going to start stalking you post-reveal, if I'm not already.
