Prompt: colours (I went a little purple)
Word Count: 250
Thx to mel, c, and hardticket for putting up with my silliness about 250 words.



Red
Arthur is red for the flag of Camelot that waves proudly in the wind, for the flow of capes of the men who will follow him anywhere. Red for the blood spilt in battles won and lost, Arthur’s chin held high through it all. Red for the passion and glory that drives him to be the greatest king that this land has ever known.

Brown
Merlin is brown for the earth that holds the power of the Old Religion deep in its soil. Brown for the dirt that clings to his peasant hands and sneaks under his fingernails, impossible to wash away completely.

Silver
Arthur is silver for the armour and the shield he carries into battle. Silver for the sword he swings with conviction, defending his lands and his people.

Blue
Merlin is blue for the sky that opens under his command, bows to his will. Blue for his eyes, the window to his every emotion, and where all his secrets are locked. Blue for the lake of Avalon that holds his past love, and waits patiently for his next.

Together, they are gold.
They are gold for Merlin’s magic, shimmering bright at his fingertips, flashing in his eyes. Gold for Arthur’s crown that binds him in duty and love of Camelot. Gold for the coming age, all of Albion flourishing under their reign. Gold for the ring Arthur wears, anchoring him to his past and the ring he will give to Merlin, an oath for the future.

This is beautiful. Together they're gold - I love that, but my favourite bittersweet line has to be this one: Blue for the lake of Avalon that holds his past love, and waits patiently for his next. Oh, Merlin, my heart breaks for you.
