Name one of my fics in comments and I will tell you what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the characters' heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

okay... no guarantees that these will be funny or entertaining in any way, but if you are interested or had specific questions I will try to um... talk about my writing a stuff.

OMG YES! SAVAGE!!! Anything but especially GUH the scene where Draco "marks" Harry. What inspired you, what Harry is thinking/experiencing, what we don't know about Draco, what Harry did/thought immediately after or the next day or whenever he wanked for the next forever. or anything else about that fic you want to tell me. Um… how long are these supposed to be? LOL.
Right so … the set up before this scene is that Draco is feeling helpless and the fact that Greyback continues to hurt him after all these years makes him furious he hates himself and who he's become/what he's becoming and has no outlet for this rage building except for Potter.

Harry on the other hand is trying to be patient.

He turned to see Potter behind him, eyes wide and wand ready, and paused just long enough to show he was aware of his audience. Then he reached for a lamp and hurled it.

It smashed against the wall to Potter's left. Potter didn't flinch. When Draco grabbed the second lamp, Potter didn't hesitate.

"Incarcerous."

At this point I really needed to give Harry some backbone. He'd been pretty supportive through the fic but Draco needed a bit of house-training (cough) and Harry need show him he wasn't taking any shit. ALSO! Draco looks glorious pinned to the wall, angry, and spread wide for Harry doesn’t he? Yes, he does.

Draco growled as the magical bonds pulled him backwards, pinning him spread eagle against the far wall. His head hit hard and his teeth rattled with the impact.

Potter sat crouched, head in his hands, for a long while. Draco wondered if Potter was crying or gathering the self-control not to kill him.

When Potter looked up, his eyes were clear and bright with anger. "I liked that lamp," he said, standing and pacing the room. Glass ground into the hardwood floor beneath his sneakers. "This is my fucking home, Malfoy. You have been here for less than twelve hours. What here has offended you so badly that you are intent on destroying everything?"

Do you ever laugh at your own jokes? I do. Draco wondered if Potter was crying or gathering the self-control not to kill him… that still amuses me years later. IDEK. /o\ Also the 'I liked that lamp' – he has this deadly werewolf pinned to his wall and yet it's ANNOYING to lose a lamp he liked. [possibly a bit of author insertion there because DUDE don't break my shit, it exactly what I would be thinking. In theory.

Draco didn't mean to, and tried to stop himself but it was too late. Potter caught his glance to the shattered mirror. Judging by the knowing look and sudden silence, he understood too well.

Smashed mirrors are never not DEEP. DEEP WRITING HERE. DRACO HATES HIMSELF – HE SMASHED A MIRROR TO PROVE IT. (also a lovely flashback to broken mirror in the bathroom during HBP.

"Let me down."

"No. I don't think so. We need to have a little talk. I had hoped we could go through this tomorrow after we'd both had a good night's sleep, but you don't waste any time making a nuisance of yourself." Potter stood before him and raised his index finger. "First rule: you don't break my shit. I don't care how much you hate yourself or the world. You don't take it out on my furniture. I have ten acres here. Go run it off. Chase rabbits, if you have to."

Werewolf Draco chasing rabbits will never not be funny. Trufax.

god, I loved that line then, and I love it now. I remember when you sent me this and it took everything in me not to comment on every single fucking line. And yes to harry getting some backbone. It's a gorgeous moment. GUH.

Draco scowled, but any retort that entered his head was self-deprecating. He remained silent and Potter raised a second finger.

"Second rule: You don't eavesdrop on private conversations. I invited you into my home; respect my privacy." Potter barely paused before extending his thumb to make three. "Third rule: people will visit here. You will act civil and if you think you cannot, go walk it off."

"So, I'm to be put outside when I've been a bad dog. Merlin, Potter if you want a pet, hand me over to Umbridge right now."

And no pissing on the house plants!!! Or the people! Author didn't warn for watersports. Save it for the sequel.

"Listen, Malfoy, not everything is about you. There's more at stake here than your life. If you want to screw yourself over by losing control and getting sent to Azkaban, then I wouldn't care, but a precedent is about to set here. If you are jailed or euthanised then everything that I've worked for trying to salvage a mediocre living for lycanthropes is for naught. Someone wanted you out of control, and organisations like National Cleansing are using it to get what they’ve wanted for years. I can't let that happen."

This was really important, obviously – and I hoped it didn’t come across as 'exposition chunk here' but also valuable information that Harry needs to tell Draco as well as the reader. WHY WHY WHY is Harry doing this? Not because it's his job, but because of the greater good. which ding-ding-ding is characterisation number 1 for Harry in my books and thus give me a lot of leeway in this fic with Harry as his driving force is Werewolf Rights and Draco is key to that. So we don't need to believe (at this point) that Harry has any designs on Draco outside of that. Just that Harry must keep Draco close.

Draco let the words sink in. There was so much not being said. It was all there, hidden beneath the surface: Potter's motivation. Draco inhaled deeply and there it was, faint but unmistakable, now that he thought to look for it. "Who is he?" Draco sniffed again. "I can smell him on you." The thought turned the soup in his stomach rancid.

So I like my boys to not 'say' everything, but to occasional 'see through' each other to get at what isn't being said (or make each other so made the blurt out truths that they wouldn't normally. This is an example of Harry telling 'half-truths' and Draco knowing enough to call him on it. Or in this case 'sniff out the truth' LOLOLOL.
Also: The thought turned the soup in his stomach rancid.
Gut rot – how Maggie 'shows' jealousy in fics. Have used this more than once, I'm sure.

Potter's sharp intake of breath and step backwards was as good as an admission.

"Who. Is. He?" Draco growled. "A school friend? An old lover?" He gritted his teeth and waited for Potter to find his voice.

"It's my godson, Teddy Lupin, who you smell. He was --" Potter looked away and caught his breath. "He was five years old when one of The Pack broke through the wards of his grandmother's house and came for him, wanted to raise him. Some sort of justice for Remus's betrayal. He was bit, but Andromeda managed to save him from being taken. We have been hiding it since. George makes him Wolfsbane each month, and I've been working with Werewolf Support Services under the guise of mourning Teddy's father."

Teddy! I really love to play on Teddy's werewolf heritage. LOVE IT. And couldn’t resist here. I had him born as a werewolf (because the only makes sense to me as it's passed through blood) but Rom told me that nope, JKR said Teddy WAS NOT born a werewolf so GAH!!! *rewrite* But it worked better anyway because I need to do a bit more world building and have 'The Pack' be this deadly menace. Still – I question JKR's statement and make Teddy wolfy whenever I like (but for this fic, I opted for a 'proper' justification).

"And that's what's so important about me." A slow burning sparked inside his chest, an ache that felt like jealousy and self-pity. "How I affect Teddy Lupin."

Isn't that a nice little slap in the face? Poor Draco. I do like to see you in pain.

Potter stared at the floor, his long lashes hiding any guilt in his eyes. "He's supposed to be off to Hogwarts next year and this… God, things have to change or they might not even let him in."

Right. Ten years old. Draco huffed out a curt breath. He would not be envious of a child. "Come here." Draco tilted his head to motion Potter forwards. "Give me your hand."

Having Teddy as only ten worked well in making Draco feel ridiculous for his jealousy and not setting up an actual triangle (I wanted this fic to be ONLY H/D). And yet, it didn't stop the jealousy from being there. Harry was HIS, and had always been (totally canon in Draco's head), but also with Harry having looked after him in the hospital and even now that Harry clearly has ulterior motives, Draco feels like he should be 'first' with Harry (totally IC, imo) so he needs to make a gesture and show Harry and Teddy that Draco is THERE.
Now regarding the 'marking' I come from BTVS and 'marking' was a huge thing – usually involving biting. I miss that! Soooo hot. So yeah. I couldn't do biting because of the whole 'turn him into a part werewolf' complication that I didn't want to deal with – though it would have been HOT for Draco to sink his teeth into Potter's neck to mark him. Nnnngh. I couldn't do pissing lololol it was an exchange fest after all and I didn't really know froggie all that well. So …

Potter's eyes narrowed, but raised his hand, palm up to Draco.

Draco leaned forward but the binding held tight. "Closer." His voice was raspy, low and dirty, strange on his tongue.

Potter's eyes flashed as he heard it, and he stepped forward as though compelled. He moved his hand so that it was a hair's breadth from Draco's nose. Draco inhaled: hand soap from the kitchen sink, cedar and rosemary and underneath that, a wolf.

Draco pressed his nose forward, nuzzling the webbing between Potter's fingers, scraping against the rough calluses. He rubbed his cheeks up and down the palm and each finger in turn. Potter let him.

Confession: I … um… I smelled my own hand like a dozen times as I wrote that bit. IDEK – just to get the feel/smell/whatever in my head so I could describe it properly. And I just did it again as I re-read. Like a pavlovian response or something. LMAO.


ETA: rosemary and cedar. it's a thing. I swear I pop it in every fic where something 'smells good and sorta woodsy' I happen to love those smells together. very manly. LOL.

the thing with Teddy totally worked. The way it was "a wolf thing" and the way they dance around each other each trying to claim harry as theirs, albeit for entirely different reasons. Draco's possessiveness was so smoking hot.

And god yes to any kind of marking/claiming. It's just frakking hot. And yum to rosemary and cedar. I'll totally take it. ;)

The need for more was impossible to ignore. It pulsed through his body with the frantic beat of his heart. He opened his mouth and flat-tongued, he licked Potter's hand -- heel of the palm to tip of the fingers.

I love how much of DOG response this is. Not really sexual out of context and quite weird. And very much what dog would do to communicate something. And so intimate and Harry 'lets him' which speaks volumes. (so I don't have to! Less typing!)

Potter gasped, pulled his hand away and stared at it a moment before looking back at Draco. His eyes flickered over Draco's face as if an answer might be written there.

Draco could smell the musky scent of arousal pouring off him.

Smelling arousal – reason number 1 to write creature fics. Also something I really missed from my btvs days. LOVE LOVE LOVE that when you deal with creatures the do weird intimate shit like lick your HAND and smell your arousal so that you can't hide (and the author doesn't have to do the whole 'his eyes flickered to Harry's crotch and saw the bulge there' thing).
And Draco's had a really rough couple of days at this point. The least he could get is the knowledge that Harry wants him after getting his hand licked.

"Did you just… mark me?"

Draco's cheeks burned. But the wolf's need had been undeniable and now the next time Potter saw Teddy, Teddy would know. Would understand.

Potter's neck flushed, red creeping from his collar and spreading upwards.

Draco thought he might leave him there to hang for the evening as punishment, or something else. Instead, Potter waved his wand to release Draco and stumbled out the door before Draco's feet hit the floor.

I wanted to make this as much about TEDDY as about Harry, Draco wants Harry as 'his' – staking him as property. But also wants Teddy to feel that jealousy that Draco felt a minute ago.

And Harry blushing at his own response and fleeing! Clearly to wank himself raw (with his still wet hand) for the rest of the night. :)))

And yes to harry being so overwhelmed and aroused adn RUNNING when just a second ago he had Draco all tied up because of politics and danger and now he's just nothing but turned on and he has to run.

I also love the ellipsis in Harry's question, which falls under my total and utterly undeniable THING for well-written dialogue (hello, marked´-by-own-thesis...), because the rhythm is just right, and it follows Harry's natural speech pattern so well. /dialogue obsession

And also. It's hot. That scene.

Your commentary, or rather the first couple lines of it, just made me read the fic and OMFG how I loooove the boys being all territorial. Ungh. So hot. The marking scene as well as the one when Draco and Ernie first meet and Draco's all about protecting Harry. Rawr!

Read the whole commentary right after finishing and loved it, too. Great to get some background info and to know what you thought while writing. :D
