I woke this morning to a mess of weather. Icky wet snow and freezing rain and more snow. I had a whole post bitching about it written in my head as I trudged back from bring the kids to the bus stop.

Then I saw the news. God. So utterly humbling to think of the little inconveniences of a few inches of snow compared to what happened in the last few hours in Japan.

In case you haven't heard yet:

I hope every one of you that was affected by this (and maybe affected as it hits Hawaii and the west coast of Canada) is safe a well. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I felt the same way. I woke after a night of rain that's washed most of it away and then saw what you did and felt this wave of utter sick of it all come over me. Such a long winter.

But it's warm and it will melt very soon and yes, the Japanese quake put it into terrible perspective.

::hugs you::

It's embarrassing to get frustrated about such a fleeting problem. [though I don't envy anyone driving in this. It's very messy and unexpected.]

God, those pictures and videos. :(((( It's surreal.

This exactly. I was planning on doing my 'long' run outside today (I'm running a half marathon in 3 weeks) and was so annoyed to see the snow and slush.

Not such a hardship to go to the gym and run there for a bit, and postpone the run to Sunday.

It is something I often say, how very very lucky I am where I live, because we are isolated from virtually every natural disaster (on a major threat scale, anyways). It really is very sad to look at the news and see this.

Our weather is sometimes a little crazy, but when you hear about these kind of natural disasters, we are very very lucky. *hugs*

Yeah, it certainly puts my own trivial problems into perspective. I'm very lucky to live in a country where nothing like this can ever happen.

Sad day. :(

So terrifying. :(
For what it's worth, I'm joining in on the thoughts and prayers. And I agree, this definitely makes our little inconveniences seem.. yeah, like what they are.

Yesterday night I saw there was an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 and didn't look for the details as I thought it would be a few buildings damaged 'as usual'.
I felt bad in the morning when I saw the damage :(

*feels ashamed*

Don't feel ashamed. It's hard to know how to process these things and how to interpret how bad they are when you first hear.

I remember I was supervisor of a call center when word came through the grape line about Sept. 11th. Everyone stopped working! my first reaction was 'yes, but you people need to keep answering the phones!' ... until I saw the first pictures. :(((

My daughter is in Tokyo, so it was a long morning. Anyway, she's okay, and so fortunate, considering what's going on there up north.

I had a post ready to go on how even though the media has largely forgotten about Christchurch (my hometown) it was not back to business as normal - very far from it in fact.

And then Japan.

When an earthquake somewhere else puts your hometown's tragic disaster into perspective, that's something really difficult to wrap your head around. It's too, too awful for them. If only we could just hug the whole of Japan. :-(
