[Disclaimer: This is a bit of a WIP at the moment. I don’t read a lot of rare pairs and this is a really sparse list so I’ve tried to point readers to comms and/or rec lists where you can get more of what you like. If you’d like to see a comm or rec list mentioned just leave me a comment.]

This is a rec list of fanworks of rare-pairings. Which means stuff that is not Merlin/Arthur or Bradley/Colin. As well all fics with Gwaine as a main character appear in the All About Gwaine rec list.

It is het, slash, femmeslash friendly, though I read mostly slash so those pairings will be the most predominant.

I’ll be updating this regularly based on my Rare Pair Recs tag. The date preceding each rec is the date it was added to this rec list. The bolded date denotes newly added recs. Last updated Feb 18, 2011.

Summary: Sir Leon and his charge, the sixteen year old Prince Arthur, find themselves needing to take shelter for the night from an oncoming thunderstorm in an inn of shady repute.

Older man doing his best to resist? Younger man being vulnerable and innocent and impossible to resists? Sound interesting? I don't care which fandom you are in. This is fucking HOT LIKE BURNING.

Summary: Arthur is probably around 16/17, and already the pushy, princely prat we know and love. Leon is older, and has all these morals and things. Sort of.

An older man teaching a younger one how to wank is just such a secret kink of mine that I rarely admit. This hits that button SO HARD. Leon was perfect. Just brilliantly restrained and Arthur was stubborn and sly without being a slutty!lolita type of character. Perfectly balanced.

Summary: When Leon became a knight of Camelot, he swore to serve and protect the king and the young prince, and he meant it with his whole heart; but this, he thinks as he kneels on the bed, running his eyes over the golden-haired boy in front of him -- this was not what he had in mind.

This little fic single handedly made me see the glory of this pairing

Short and ridiculously hot Merlin/Uther. Merlin makes an advance to distract Uther and doesn’t really mind the consequence. Delicious.

I love when this pairing is done like this and it’s not ‘too dark’ just... dark enough to be in character. No idea if that makes any sense. LOL. But Uther and Merlin 'role playing' that Merlin is a sorcerer is fucking brill. And plays on Uther being oblivious while the reader understands the irony, which I kinda love like a crazy loving thing.

I’ve been looking for a Merlin/Morgana that hits my buttons and captures a Morgana and a Merlin that I can really believe in. It’s actually a really complicated balance of things... But this fic managed it. I can recognise all the characters and understand their motivation. I loved the look into Morgana’s mind and being able to see her as a more complex character than what we are given on the show, while still being S3 Morgana. I’m totally checking out all the other Morganas this author has to offer.

Summary: Morgana's tired of Arthur strutting around the castle boasting about his hunting skills, and sets out by herself to show him up. Instead of prancing back to Camelot with a prize kill of her own to show the King, she goes missing. Arthur's sent to out to find and retrieve her, but before they can return an early spring/winter storm blows in.

This fic warns for: Implied Underage (16/18), incest so let's get that out of the way. Arthur and Morgana don't know they're siblings so that's just a yummy bit of hotness that you can have in your head or not. But Arthur being inexperienced and embarrassed in the face of older and more mature Morgana hits all my buttons.

Summary: When a mischievous nymph bespells Prince Arthur, Merlin enlists his closest knights to help soothe him. (Which is a nice way to say this is basically lots of rimming and horny and/or scandalized knights.)

Smutatic smutty-ness. A rimming marathon to save Arthur's life, told through every characters POV as they come into the sitatution with varying bits of knowledge/experience/prudishness is just… yeah. Good stuff.
