marguerite_26: (Merlin - watersports)

My kids have started to watch Inspector Gadget every morning.

For those that may not know (or remember) the basic premise of each episode is as follows:
With the help of his niece (Penny) and her dog (Brain), Gadget inadvertently saves the day, his nemesis escapes and his boss arrives to congratulate Gadget on a job well done. Gadget is left clueless as to what actually is going on and Penny and Brain's help remains a secret.

Sound familiar Merlin fans?

So... I'm seriously starting to wonder if it is in fact Inspector Gadget and not Superman that JCapps has watched too much of. :/

Needless to say this damn cartoon is endlessly annoying because I can't unsee the comparison and thinking of Arthur as Inspector Gadget is SO DAMN WRONG. *scrubs brain* (er.. that is my brain, not the dog Brain... I think I need more sleep and less cartoons). Hold me.

I loved Inspector Gadget when I was a child, and the intro song! It got stuck in my brain and still hasn't left it. But Inspector Gadget as Arthur? ... NOOOO O_o

The intro song has been in my head since we got this stupid channel (a retro cartoon channel) the week before Christmas.

Can't UNSEE!

Inspector Gadget is soooo annoying and yet the theme song and something about the Inspector always captivated my attention when my daughter watched it thus establishing it as the devil back in the day.

That and Caillou because OMG the whining!

Caillou is HORRIBLE. I hate that show with a passion. Actually more than any other cartoon out there.

The Inspector himself is oddly endearing in his childlike obliviousness. But the theme song is a total brain worm. *headdesk*

Hahaha, oh man, this is like when I couldn't unsee the Merlin + Arthur = Jeeves + Wooster connection (largely cause of things like this (http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lefg2xNDD41qziulwo1_r1_1280.png?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1294324352&Signature=fXO%2By8iscaCx96LP44fR%2FrJxRcU%3D)). *High fives back*

I'd like to say that Arthur is less oblivious, but it would be a lie.

AHAHAH!!!

Fortunately I've never watched Jeeves and Wooster and am completely immune to the evil of that connection. *g*

:D Blue-eyed, posh, slightly dim but really good hearted layabout who is regularly rescued from romantic entanglements by dark haired, cleverer-than-his-master-realises valet with mysterious powers of genius.

...the parallels just draw themselves, really :D

That's just... begging to be slashed, isn't it? ;)

I love british tv.

It IS. It's practically canon. They have passive aggressive arguments via the mechanism of Jeeves throwing out any clothes he doesn't approve of (e.g. a white mess jacket he thought 'had been placed in your wardrobe by your enemies, sir') and Bertie buying successively more horrendous ties. Husbands, husbands, husbands.

J&W slash is some of my favourite slash in the world. The Wodehouse-ian language is absurd and wonderful and when ficcers get it right it's so, so wonderful. One of the first Merlin fics I read was in the style of a J&W story, and I think it had a lot to do with me falling for this fandom.

...you shouldn't have got me started, haha ;)

I find knocked unconscious Arthur much less attractive, and unfortunately can see the inspector gadget in him easily in those moments. :((

But hee! Jeeves and Wooster is amusing, though.

We have a 'no tv' rule in the mornings. It's hard enough to get them out the door without the tv on. D:

The TV is a great motivator in this house. TV is on while they eat, then it goes off until they are dressed and ready to go - it's amazing how fast they can move it to get to catch the last 10 minutes of a show. :D

And now the theme's in my head forever.

Hubby and I are fond of saying "go go gadget arm" when reaching for something. Because we are twelve.

One memorable time he actually said "Go go gadget cock". That was interesting. :D
