Summary: Five times Elyan and Gwaine shared a bond of trust.

I adore what this fic says about the bond that the round table knights now have. It's mostly a gen fic, and yet… not. It's practically an orgy of bromance where you have men who trust each other and care about and take of each other. A wonderful piece that you don't need to appreciate the listed pairing to enjoy the story itself.

In the midst of it, Gwaine finds himself harbouring feelings for a man who apparently has a destiny, and learns something new about magic: it doesn’t play fair, and serving it shakes everything you hold dear – whether you’re a sorcerer or not.

This is a brilliant read. Gwaine is just... spot on. I quite literally burst out laughing in a number of places because his comments were so so Gwaine. I loved the Merlin/Gwaine relationship and the way that Arthur remained, without question, a defining part of Merlin’s life – and not at the expense of Gwaine. But that Gwaine was there to love and support Merlin in his destiny and not lead him down a different path. Also the Gwaine and Arthur moments of conflict where at times hilarious and often heart wrenching. Great plot, great characterisations, great story telling. Love all around.

Summary: Just when Gwaine finds a reason to end his roaming, he must leave Camelot again, this time on royal orders. Whether and how he returns may depend on the secrets Merlin—and others—are keeping from him. (A romance of letters, intrigue and knightly apprenticeship, set post-S3.)

This fic is an EPIC journey for Gwaine in the post-S3 world. It takes into account the politics and loyalties and secrets that the show is so full of at the end of S3, then tells the tale of Arthur coming into power and Merlin at his side, but all through the eyes of Gwaine who is looking at it all from the outside and for the most of the fic, very far away. And behind all that 'plot' there is a lovely tale of romance and long distant relationships. Incredibly well done and a nice slow burn sort of fic.

A fabulous lengthy Merlin/Gwaine. I love how the author played ‘the Arthur factor’ here. He has this stilted, awkward, very platonic relationship with Merlin that neither Merlin or Gwaine ignore the importance of. And yet, they can see the bit of happiness that they can bring each other in the situation they are given without it being All. About. Arthur. Well done.

This fic is HYSTERICAL!!! I adore jealous Arthur and this is … insane with Arthur having all these upset feelings and not knowing how to deal with them and Merlin and Gwaine just accepting his insanity because he's Arthur and allowed to be ridiculous because he doesn't know how else to be in the defence of his manservant's virtue.

Summary: When Gwaine stumbles on the little village of Ealdor he plans to stay two nights. Maybe three. Except then there's Merlin.

Holy shit. This is a BRILLIANT first time fic. It is hot like burning with spot on Gwaine. Just yeah – leashy gives such great Merlin/Gwaine... it makes my insides all mushy. It hits everything I love about ‘first time’ moments – the nerves, the curiosity, the lust overcoming the panic... it’s all there and just pitch perfect all around. Please note the warnings: Canon AU, age difference (with Merlin about 17). But Merlin here is not ‘young and vulnerable’ (if that’s not your thing) he is just inexperienced and very eager to have those ‘firsts’ with Gwaine (who is early-twenties-ish).

I read this fic like this --> ♥_♥ the whole time. It’s incredibly romantic with nice touch of humour and yummy sex. Incredibly heart warming for a cold winter’s day.

Summary: Merlin manages to get himself banished along with Gwaine in 3x04.

This is a wonderfully done look at Merlin and Gwaine leaving Camelot together post 3.04. They are tender and sweet together, and I love how the author plays ‘The Arthur Factor.’ Merlin is still torn and a little heartbroken about having to leave Camelot and his destiny and Arthur. Gwaine understands him, and never pushes. And the fic takes us (and Merlin) on the full round trip back to Arthur. Very satisfying. Though I’d be happy to see a ridiculously long sequel to this.

Another hilarious, sexy, well done fic. A perfect sequel with Gwaine teasing and in control, Merlin desperate and outspoken and Arthur just the right kind of clueless and awkward. If you haven’t read the first yet – what are you waiting for? Then go read this one.

This is a wonderful action/adventure for Merlin and Gwaine. A fun ghost story with the background of investigator!Gwaine being fascinated with psychic!Merlin while the two try to figure out what is really happening around them. I would love to see this turn into a series.

Feb 28, 2012- The Cinders, The Violets, and the Gooseberries by junkshop_disco Merlin/Gwaine [R] (4.4k)
Summary: As a travel writer, Gwaine has developed a gift for summing up towns in 500 words, but Camelot and its chocolatier won’t stay out of his notebook, even when he’s supposed to have left the place behind.

This is based on the film Chocolat. Where Merlin opens a chocolate shop and Gwaine is the newcomer to the town that falls in love with the chocolate - and with Merlin. The prose in this are just stunning and Merlin is this alluring, mysterious creature who communicated through chocolate and knowing smiles. I fell in love and so did Gwaine.

Summary: It was meant to be a solo quest — Merlin struggling to find ingredients for a spell to save King Arthur’s life — until Gwaine was sent to check on him and decided to stay. Now he’ll follow Merlin to the four kingdoms of the elements and back to the mortal realm, meet his own destiny at the Green Chapel, and become the willing champion of the most powerful sorcerer to ever live.

There are a lot of ‘Quest’ fics out there, and this one without a doubt deserves the title ‘Epic Quest.’ Everything thing in this fic is done on a grand scale: amazing adventures, fascinating OCs, humour and pathos and triumph over adversity. I really appreciated the friendship and love between Merlin and Gwaine that went far beyond sexual attraction to being true partners in every sense and the Arthur factor was dealt with handily. Vague Spoilers: While Arthur was absent for the majority of the fic, he is still a specter between them (certainly from Gwaine’s POV) and not ignored to serve the plot. But rest assured that by the end of the fic Arthur is standing tall and proud with Merlin at his side. And Gwaine where he should be at Merlin’s side. Smiles all around.

Summary: Future fic - the first truly peaceful winter of Arthur's reign, and Gwaine introduces Merlin to a new tradition.

Future fic. Yet another super sweet Merlin/Gwaine by leashy. I adore these little snippet of romance and humour.

June 26, 2011 - The Opposite of Loneliness by junkshop_disco [R] (4.5k)
Summary: Gwaine learns that loneliness is throwing yourself a fake birthday party in a goth theme pub, and everyone coming except the one person you really wanted to be there.

A nice bit of heart-achy insecurity for Gwaine in this fic. It really worked for me to have Gwaine, who tries so hard to be laid-back, have this moment of contemplation and self-doubt. Very romantic and touching fic, peppered with hilarity.

Okay that was a bit tongue in cheek, but the author does a great job taking a very serious situation, something potentially high on my squick list and making it very hot and very entertaining while everyone remains perfectly in character and never crossed over to being crack.

So deliciously kinky and full of emotion and just enough jealousy to heighten the hotness factor through the roof. *bookmarks-forever*

Summary: set during 3x8, The Eye of the Phoenix, contains some spoilers for that. It clearly makes sense for Merlin to go and get Gwaine to help him save Arthur. There are lots of valid reasons for him to do that, it's not just that Gwaine's very attractive… Merlin's needs aren't met very often, but then, neither are Gwaine's.

Kink warning: Watersports. I love the way this author portrays the vulnerability of both Merlin and Gwaine and the acceptance they show each other. It’s one more thing that binds them together, and builds their trust. Very hot with honest emotions nestled in there nicely!

Summary: Gwaine and Arthur have a night of drunken escapades that could possibly lead to more despite their best efforts to be dumb guys about it all. They also do their best to gross Merlin out along the way.

When I think Gwaine/Arthur , I usually imagine angry fight sex, or bonding over Merlin sex or a bit of D/s. Certainly not a romantic comedy. But that’s what this is. A hilarious romantic comedy filled with shenanigans like having sex on Merlin and Freya’s bed just because his face when he finds out is ridiculously funny and boys that don’t talk other than to insult each other and get mocked mercilessly by their friends. A different kind of rom-com. And Merlin as completely straight and Gwaine/Merlin as 100% platonic? Worked solidly in this fic. Unbelievably well. I wouldn’t have thought it possible. An absolute must read, even if the pairing typically does nothing for you.

June 26, 2011 - Charming Mansluts: The Brunch Edition by giselleslash [R] (3k)
Summary: Merlin and Leon sit in Gwaine's super special chair and ponder the mystery that is Arthur and Gwaine. Freya also does a really frighteningly accurate imitation of Arthur's sex noises that makes Gwaine proud and Arthur cringe and makes Merlin think about bananas. And then they have brunch. (okay, let's face it, this thing doesn't really have a plot.)

This universe is so much fun. This sequel is as adorable and funny as the first. Dear author – don't stop. The boys are too damn cute and snarky to not have more of them.

Summary: Someone is fucking in the locker room. Merlin realizes he’s having one of those life-changing moments.

This entire series is fabulously hot. This first piece is all Arthur/Gwaine (the other chapters are Arthur/Merlin). The author captured the teen angst movie feel so perfectly I totally felt myself trembling with Merlin.

Summary: The boys are trapped in a cave! Merlin frets. Gwaine tries to sex Arthur up. Shenanigans ensue. I am really bad at writing summaries.

The world needs more Arthur/Gwaine!!! The world needs this fic to be more that 550 words! I think a commoner gets knighted every time Gwaine calls Arthur ‘Princess’ in a fic.

Feb 10, 2011- Limits and Outlines by rufflefeather [NC-17] (~3k) Arthur/Gwaine

I think Arthur/Gwaine is a really hard sell and most fics of this pairing are D/s or angry sex. This one plays on that but gives me a bit more. Merlin’s life’s at risk and both Gwaine and Arthur are feeling helpless and desperate. It’s a great bonding moment for them. The whole thing just worked for me.

Feb 28, 2012- The Devil’s Food by rufflefeather Arthur/Gwaine [R] (3.8k)
Summary: Arthur fails at cake-baking, Merlin is a cat and Gwaine does things with frosting.

This fic was hilarious and adorable. Anyone who has watched My Drunk Kitchen will appreciate the brilliance of drinking rum while struggling through a recipe that you don’t really understand while sober.

Feb 28, 2012- The Way To A Man's Heart (And All That Jazz) by leashy_bebes Arthur/Gwaine [Nc-17] (9k)
Summary: Arthur learns that sometimes blind dates – even unexpected, unwanted ones with Merlin's friends – work out. Eventually.

I loved this take on Merlin the matchmaker, because it was interesting to see the trope turned on its head. The matchmaking fails right off the bat, not because the usual trope of the hate each other, but the kiss of death: Arthur and Gwaine decide to become friends. And all Merlin’s efforts only serve to complicate what might otherwise happen naturally.

Summary: On their way home from the quest, Merlin, Gwaine and Arthur stop for a dip in a lake outside the Perilous Lands.

This fic was hot like burning, slipping right into canon as a 'missing scene' after they find the trident. Sexy skinny dipping with Merlin/Gwaine already pretty cosy and Arthur a funny on to nail down, an outsider, a voyeur – is he jealous or overwhelmed by Gwaine's hands all over his manservant? A really interesting dynamic and I loved the enigma that Arthur was in this fic.

Summary: The boys model hand-harnesses, and then road test them. All in the name of science and healthy competition.

The boys are models. Sex toy models. Really, where could this fic go wrong? Arthur’s POV is hilarious. He’s all sulky and pouty and defensive in the face of Gwaine(been there done that) and Merlin(so wants to be never has) flirting shamelessly in front of him. Really delish (with a definite leaning towards Arthur/Merlin, if that sways you.)

Meanwhile his roommates are giving him the cold shoulder and he's clueless as to why. Loved the characterisation of each the boys. Great OT3 fic. :)

Fun, fun fic. Gwaine/Merlin make a hilarious casual couple. And the bits of cross-dressing (with no humiliation, btw, if that’s a squick) were really delish and Merlin crush on Arthur was adorable.

This fic is adorable and fun. Arthur keeps walking in on M/Gwa going at it on the couch and it’s very annoying!!! Sensing his stress they make a bet (and Arthur agrees – what? Just go with it) so see who can make him come first. The result is hilarious and hot.

Feb 28, 2012- Something Else Entirely by giselleslash Arthur/Gwaine/Merlin (and pairings therein) [PG-13] (3k)
Summary: Modern AU. Gwaine is missing something in his life and Merlin helps him find it.

This is a beautiful, quiet fic that really grabbed my heart and squeezed. Each character was wonderfully written, and their journey to find happiness together was really moving.

June 26, 2011 - Southern Comfort by lolafeist Arthur/Merlin, Arthur/Gwaine, Arthur/Gwaine/Merlin [NC-17] (1.5k)
Summary: Merlin is still drunk when he wakes up. Gwaine is fucking Arthur on the bed beside him. Life is awesome.

This is set in the "Waffles" universe, which is this series of incredible hot M/A pornlets with Gwaine sometimes making a showing. They are all crazy hot, the newest installment is no exception.

Mar 19, 2011 - The Heart, the Brain and the Body. Three, the magic number. by rufflefeather [NC-17] (3k)
Summary: Where Merlin conjures flowers and everyone is basically horny.

A delish balanced threesome (but with a underlying hint of M/A more than M/Gwa for those of you OTPers that care about such things). It’s well done and hot like burning, with characterisation of all three that really works for me.

June 26, 2011 - Till the Heavens Start the Rain by rufflefeather [NC-17] (4k)
Summary: On a hot summer's night, Gwaine finds Merlin trying to escape from the heat behind the stables. When Gwaine asks Merlin to go skinny dipping, he doesn't say no, because he has secretly been fantasizing about his Summer Camp horse riding instructor since he was 14. And then Arthur walks into the scene.

A fun summer-sex modern AU. I love the ‘first time, summer camp’ feel of this. Really delish.

Nov 28, 2010 - Timshel by pepperlandgirl4 [NC-17] (12k)
Summary: Arthur has the Fisher King's trident, so why does he feel like the quest is a failure? Set during episode 3.08.

A delicious threesome that really explores the dynamic between these characters. We get Arthur’s perspective of Merlin/Gwaine – which is a favourite kink of mine, but we also get a touch of epicness and destiny that was hinted at with Courage, Strength and Magic which raises this all above a simple PWP.

June 26, 2011 - Triad by riventhorn [PG-13] (6k)
Summary: A Mercian army marches on Camelot, but Arthur has forbidden Merlin from using his magic in the battle. Gwaine must try to comfort Merlin and find out exactly what Arthur thinks he is doing.

This is a lovely (non-porny) treesome fic. Very much the whole ‘courage’, ‘strength’, ‘magic’ theme and how all three are needed for Arthur to fulfill his destiny. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the three in the face of arguments and battles and hurt feelings.

Summary: A triangle is the strongest shape, and Gwaine wants proof. Modern AU.

This fic made me fall harder than you could possibly imagine for this pairing. As much as I've always adored it, each character just SHINES in this beautiful sexy piece.

Summary: Merlin has both the men he wants, but he's not happy.

The premise of this fic is one of my absolute favourite future!fic bunnies. I love love love how the author played this out, showing the complexity of a threesome and all the emotion behind making polyamory work when it’s not a balanced relationship.

This isn't my OT3, but I love the way the author played up the difference between these three and made me understand why Gwaine loved this time alone with the other two so much. And the DP – so damn hot.

Summary: Gwaine offers to let Freya stay in his flat for the week before Merlin and Arthur's wedding. He doesn't expect to fall in love, but it's definitely a bonus.

This fic is nothing short of ADORABLE. Gwaine and Freya are both wonderfully drawn and such a delight to read about. Not sickly sweet, nor instant love - I felt like they had a chance to get to know each other and liked what they saw, faults and all. Freya is interesting, fragile and strong-willed, a little bit broken but not unfixable. And Merlin and Arthur planning their wedding as the sub-plot is funny and sweet and romantic. Like most of this author's work, I found myself smiling to myself to the very last word, and a bit after that too...

June 26, 2011 - Made Glorious Summer by hermette [Pg-13] (21k)
Summary: Gwaine had always found that the novelty of a country house party wore off by the third or fourth day — nothing much to do and far too much time in which to do it. He'd often wondered if that was why so many house parties ended with either a scandal or an engagement — perhaps everyone had simply got bored.

I don’t even know where to start in reccing this. First, I love the idea of Gwaine/Elena. The pairing really works for me because I think Gwaine is the type of guy that would really appreciate Elena’s lack of etiquette. But the author’s brilliant decision to make this a Regency fic adds a lovely dimension to the whole ‘social niceties’ theme. It allows for wonderful scenes like Gwaine meeting Lady Elena for the first time and her gloves are dirty because she was driving the coach at some point. That is just so spot on. As is Arthur being ‘uncomfortable’ with Elena’s outrageousness and Gwaine being quickly enamoured with it. I also really appreciated that Elena is not ‘over-done’ – she isn’t made the fool, nor does she do anything that would get her ‘shunned’ by society, only talked about as an oddity. As well the sub-plot of Merlin/Arthur is subtle and brilliant and DEAR GOD, PLEASE let there be an outtake of these two. Excellent plot, gorgeous use of language and everything fit perfectly with the genre. I loved this a lot.

Feb 28, 2012- Suicidal Glasses and the Halloween Goose by giselleslash Gwaine/Elena [PG] (3k)
Summary: Elena has to work Halloween night and Gwaine is smitten by the fact that she’s pretty much the worst bartender ever.

Hysterical little fic, Gwaine and Elena are adorable together, but the rest of the gang really steal the show. Very fun read.

Summary: Though Gwaine might leap to rescue a lady in distress, sometimes the lady prefers to do the rescuing herself.

Absolutely delightful little fic with one of my favourite rare pairs. Spot on characterization of both Gwaine and Elena and a realistic first meeting.
