A/N For
ships_harry who requested Harry/Scorpius, dawn, 247 words. Happy Birthday, Scarlet. I decided to write this for you because your comments on To Me You Are the Sea really struck a chord with me and this is a direct inspiration of that. Thank you to
snegurochka_lee for looking this over. Title from the same song as the first fic, Norah Jones' "What Am I To You?"
Author’s notes are longer than fic! Oof!
Scorpius woke to the still unfamiliar ticking of Harry’s watch. They’d fallen asleep with Harry’s hand on Scorpius’s cheek; it seemed they had yet to move. As Scorpius regained awareness, the previous day’s events flooded back to him: telling first Albus, then Ginny who’d both been surprised but quietly supportive after having a shot of whiskey and glass of wine, respectively. Harry had handled Lily and James while Scorpius stood behind, silent. During the gathering of the rest of the family, Scorpius had blushed and stammered like a first year through the worst of it, Harry’s strong hand on his shoulder – a gentle reminder that he wasn’t alone, that it was all worth it.
To Scorpius’s surprise, after Sunday dinner Harry had presented each member of the Weasley family – even Teddy (who’d been remarkably dateless) – with a slip of parchment that contained the address to their flat. In one fell swoop, their life together had become public. No one would abuse it, Harry had assured him, but there’d be no more hiding.
Scorpius’s stomach flipped as he remembered it wasn’t over. After breakfast they’d visit the Manor. It would be Scorpius doing the talking this time, Scorpius’s hand on Harry’s shoulder while he explained to his parents.
He lay awake, listening to the ticking, practising his speech until the first morning light snuck through the crack in the curtains.
Scorpius grinned. Lifting the covers, he crawled beneath. It was time to wake Harry for another big day.
