Creating a rec list

Based on a comment I saw the other day, I've been thinking of compiling all my Merlin Recs into a one giant rec list with all my rambling commentary included.

If I were to do this, what would be important to you, oh Merlin fic readers...

Don't take my votes too serious, gaaaahh!!! Although for me, not that I'd ever touch a Merlin fic, I'd love to have canon and modern AU fics separated. ;)

I would love if a "date added" was included in the recs. I can't tell you how many times I go to a rec list and can't figure out which ones I've already read/glanced over and which ones I haven't (which probably says something not too great about my memory for names of fics.)

Oh my HP rec list I did it by:

date read
organized by certain themes
and I noted my 'favorites'

Sometimes I wrote something about the, noted the length, or if it came from a fest or something.

Those are all fabulous things! But I know myself, if I have to add to many 'things' that means I can't just c&p all my current recs then I'm going to just never get it done. Even now I look at the votes for 'alphabetical order' and I'm like... meh, maybe I won't bother. :P

I'm particularly anal about this sort of stuff, but what I did with my H/D reclist was put organize it by length, and THEN by title. People aren't usually looking for just a random story. Either they want epics or one-shots. And they usually know how long 15,000 words takes them, for example. I could make it more navigable. :)

Also, I don't think you have to separate the AU's but at least make note of them in your little blurbs. I like to show warnings so people don't get suddenly squicked, you know?

Thanks for your thoughts. My recs are about 50% modern AUs and 50% canon era, and it does seem very important to people (myself included) so I think I will be separating them (LJ's going to make me split the post anyway!)

hmm... the listing things by size is a very good idea, I'll either do that or alphabetical.
