I realised that I am never going to post recs unless I start chopping them into smaller bits.

Here are a bunch of Merlin/Arthur recs. These are all set in Camelot - ie: not modern!AUs:

At Our Best When It's From the Hips by derryere [NC-17] (13k)
Summary: Merlin goes to a brothel to get rid of that virginity thing and runs into Arthur. From there on, it's all madness.

This is so fabulous, with a young Merlin (by which, I mean 'feels' young) trying to figure out if he's gay and angsting about it like only Merlin knows how. Not nearly as cracky as the summary implies. Actually, not cracky at all. Hot and tender and emo.

The King's Daughter [NC-17] (5.5k)
Summary: (Girl!Arthur/Merlin)

I saw this art ( As Her Highness Commands by lizardspots) and suddenly grew a kink… anyway… this isn't an Arthur gets turned into a girl!fic. It's a 'What if the king had a daughter instead.' It’s a fun look at the change in Arthur's situation (a female trying to lead her knights) and yet keeping Arthur's personality true to canon.

Let Go and Watch the Sunlight Bend by cherrybina [NC-17] (15k)
Summary: It’s the hottest summer in Camelot’s history. Arthur is confused about what he likes, Merlin tries to help him figure it out, but neither one of them has a clue what they really want.

Very cute fic with flustered!Arthur and oblivious!Merlin and their charming conversations until they finally figure themselves out.

Accept No Substitutes by lamardeuse [NC-17] (7k)
Summary: It was extraordinary, Merlin reflected as he pounded down the corridor toward the Great Hall, how often the destiny the Great Dragon constantly spoke of entailed saving Arthur from beautiful women.

I love Merlin in this fic, very conflicted and honourable, wanting to protect Arthur (in this case, from the visiting Lady Mireilla who happens to have a love potion) and struggling with his own desires.

Warlock by aftertherain [R] (18k)
Summary: Take me up; cast me away. What happens in the aftermath of a truth revealed.

And for something completely different… This is a type of fic that I almost never see in this fandom. Harsh and raw and it broke my heart into pieces. A very compelling read, but not an easy one.
