That Shall Achieve The Sword and An Exile In Albion by astolat (25K? not sure how long the entire series is)

These two are the last two of a series which starts with Beltane, however I didn't realise that at the time – I wish I had, I do like starting fics at the beginning, but for some reason the author's mainpage doesn't make it obvious that it is a series, and I missed the link at the beginning if the fic. So – I'm reccing the ending, which I read and LOVED, but I imagine the entire series is more enjoyable read together and in order. *headdesk*
I do love the universe that astolat creates and as with several of her fics, the focus is not solely on M/A but on Arthur's destiny and how his path is laid before him. It's all very 'big picture' while still being about the characters.

I wasn't sure what to think of this fic when I read the summary. Another AU with Merlin and the gang in college, and 77k!!! Goodness, how many EPIC AU's does this fandom have, right? They can't all be great. And I'm sure they are not, but this on is. An excellent fic. With a Merlin and Arthur just like I like them, the prat and the idiot that just click and yet never stop arguing. And there is so much more going on in this fic, all the peripheral characters get there stories and they are compelling and heartbreaking and amusing. I cannot say enough about how much I loved each of them, from Morgana to Uther to Will. A fic that will live in my mind for a very long time.

And because I love to share everything that I love, here's a dump of vids that I adored. They are all either Merlin/Arthur or gen with Arthur and/or Merlin as a main focus.

Oddly, I am not a fan of this song so I nearly didn't click but this version, together with this vid, it all worked for me.

Just more of how much the boys love each other, really... but yeah... I can't get enough of that. :D

And, you know, I really resisted the modern AU fics for a long time. But you're right; there are just so many classic ones in this fandom that shouldn't be missed.

It's really funny how these massive AUs are all so... good. heh. It's like how many ways can you make Arthur a rich part and Merlin a poor dork and still keep it interesting? And yet... I'm still interested, somehow. The novel length fics surprisingly really engaging.

I was so sad this morning when I realised I didn't stare at the beginnning of the series. *sad face* And now I really can't get myself to go back and just read the beginning set up fics. Maybe someday. :(
