YAY!!! I've watched every. single. episode!!! YAY!
OMG! so much fun. Come talk to me about it!!! I've kinda devoured the show and haven't had time to process all the little bits and bobs. I've read two fic. (wot? you didn't believe me when I said I wouldn't?)
I have several (dozen) plot bunnies bouncing about it my head. YAY! OMG! those boys are soooo damn cute together. I am in looooooooooooove.
Also! icon! ha! There is also a cross-dressing one and a bondage one. :D
Got them here if anyone is interested. :D
I wish I could spend hours making comments on everything single episode, because I totally could ramble quite a bit. I was very open to falling in love with this show and I did, easily. :D
I'm surprised how much I love Arthur. For all the lameness and over the top silliness that the show has, there is a complexity to Arthur that is fantastic. He is such a prat. OMG! And he hasn't moved past being a prat (which I appreciate!) he simply allows enough glimpses of himself that make me love him while still knowing he is a such a prat. *squishes him* I like characters that don't suddenly become 'not a prat' because it's season 2, or whatever.
And Merlin! *flails* while the whole '*sigh* I have a secret identity and everyone thinks I'm a tool and I must trip and fall be ridiculous' is all very over done by every popular 'hero' atm, it works for me because Colin true is a total adorable geek and not ZOMG!gorgeous!athletic guy playing a geek. And MAN that boy can wear emotions on his sleeves with the best of them. He is the EMO KING. *loves*
Misc. Stuff I LOVED:
You shall be Arthur's Manservant. ok - totally obvious, yet.. ahahaha! WIN!
The 'married to a Troll' episode. Oh.My.God. I was prepared for it totally lame filler episode but bwahhahaha! I died laughing throughout the entire thing. Tony Head is just FABULOUS in love, isn't he?
Ok - a little segue into another life - on Buffy, Tony was famous for not WEARING TROUSERS. So like if a scene was going to be shot from the waist up, he didn't wear his trousers for the scene. HAHAHAHA! I can't help think that every time he shoots a scene in Merlin. *snorfles*
Arthur being jealous over Merlin giving Morgana flowers? LOL! There is a missing scene there where Arthur spanks him manservant for inappropriate behaviour. o.O
Also, Arthur should bathe more in season 3. Bathing is VERY IMPORTANT. PLEASE. just ... one.. only one little scene with Merlin washing Arthur's hair? PLEASE? pretty PLEASE??? *begs* Also towelling off. VERY IMPORTANT and clearly manservant work.
cross-dressing? this needs to come up more often. Also more water tossing. and tending to wounds. And just a little thank you to whomever decided that Arthur's chest was basically it's own character in Season 2 and that it needed more screen time that anyone else. That was lovely.
OH - and my favourite moment - and this is kinda weird, but when Arthur is 'officially' crowned, the way Merlin looks at him which such pride. *flails*
ok - talk to me people!!! favourite eps, favourite quotes.
I would also love recs to fics, but my time is VERY limited so I'm going to be specific...
- only absolute favs, no AUs (I'm not ready for that yet), Arthur/Merlin, I'd pref. top!Arthur (no, don't get into the 'top/bottom shouldn't matter' debate with me. I'm just telling you my preference at this moment. for whatever reason, top!merlin just doesn't do it for me.) and 'fits into canon' stuff would be TOTAL WIN.

This is like so awesome.
And, despite all my attitudes about topping and bottoming, I just cannot read bottom!Arthur. Squicks me something rotten. I couldn't even tell you why, it just isn't remotely what I want from the pairing.
One more rec: The One where Arthur Despoils Merlin in a Cave (http://ifyouweremine.livejournal.com/138263.html).
Also a vid: Aqua Teens Camelot (http://ifyouweremine.livejournal.com/140845.html).
Another vid, this one sad and beautiful and makes me cry: Handlebars (http://such-heights.dreamwidth.org/31897.html)

Date: 2010-03-09 04:15 pm (UTC)I really can't stand her. In season one, she was over-emotional, irrational, and a bit stupid, but she was also strong and kick-arse, so I could forgive her.
In season two, the kick-arse was mostly mysteriously replaced with quivering and she made so many truly awful choices that I just couldn't hold onto any respect. She can't see the bigger picture, she's self-absored, she's willing to let people die because she's too scared to take responsibility for her actions. She's flighty and lacks conviction. She's nowhere near good enough for Merlin. Or Gwen.
A lot of it's due to her character being written very badly in season two, and more is due to Katie not being, in my opinion, a very good actress. But, yeah. She could have been an amazing character, but the writers really let her down.

Date: 2010-03-09 04:37 pm (UTC)I would have liked her more... grey. Like I loved er... the one where she almost kills Uther at her father's grave. THAT was just spot on to me.
But then... WTF? She makes the SAME basic moral decisions/mistakes over and over which made her kinda pathetic. Waivering again after a significant period of time would have been more realistic, like S3, S4 and taking the 'other route' would have been better writing.
One issue I did have with the show was that it each episode was too isolated from the rest. From one episode to the next, the growth in characters just didn't show through the plot (like a true character arc) but rather someone could shuffle the eps of the season a it wouldn't matter. Which okay, to some extent, but as the show matures I hope we see more of a 'season's journey' for the characters mixed with stand alone episodes.

Date: 2010-03-09 04:44 pm (UTC)Yes, the moment when she changed her mind was really beautiful. It's a shame she didn't learn anything from the experience.
I had a lot of problems with the writing in season two. It was all over the place in just the way you describe. (Plus, omg, someone make Colin eat.) Fortunately, there were enough episodes like the Marry a troll one, and enough moments like the one in which Arthur watched Lancelot take Gwen's hand as they escaped and we watched his heart break, and the final episode of awesome love for me to still love the series.
And the fandom is just gorgeous.

I do love the 'lightness' of the series. I am watching it for the giggles and the pretty so the emotion and thinky-thoughts about character is totally a bonus. HOWEVER, if I was really wanting the depth I got from say... Buffy, I would be very disappointed in a few things. (not that Buffy didn't disappoint me on plenty of occations)
But watching one ep after another in very *cough* quick succession it was easy to forgive the niggly bits and missed opportunities. :D
I'm looking forward to fanfic to make-up the difference.

Date: 2010-03-09 04:40 pm (UTC)If Merlin had confided in her, become her confident, made her feel less alone things could have gone very differently for both of them.
especially when Arthur gets more and more jealous of their closeness and takes matters into his own hands. :P
