My Wish List
Dec. 1st, 2009 09:28 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
What The List Is All About...
• Make a post to your LJ with a list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, big or small, expensive or free, fandom-related or not. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
• If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
• Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
• Surf around your friends list to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
• You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not — it's your call.
• There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My List
1. Throughout December, if you read a fic, comment on it. Just a quick: I enjoyed that, thanks! is always welcome.
2. Fanart – wot? I know, who doesn’t want fanart? But even the simplest drawbles make me squee. So yes, fanart would make me squee on you.
3. Drabbles! Write a drabble of a pairing you have never written just for the heck of it. 100 words. Prompts: One of: (polyjuice, eyelashes, scars, broken mirrors, feathers, bestiality, snitch, freckles)
4. In your own journal rec your favourite fic in the world (even if it's a bazillion years old and everyone and their dog has read it)
5. We are a very international community here, I would love and recipe from where you are from. Whether it's Ohio or Berlin or Sydney – I would like a regional recipe (or a recipe from your family's ethnic background) that you would like to share.
6. Icons? Christmas icon? Icons for reccing? Icons for writing? Icons for I'm writing smut? YAY blowjobs! Icons? Stuff like that. :)
7. Write a 'My character' description for of the next gen characters. Like: 'My Scorpius only bottoms for Harry Potter' kind of thing..
8. Read something that goes beyond your usual comfort zone and tell me about it. (If you want recs for this adventure, let me know).
9. Support your local Food Bank.
10. This last one is soooo self-indulgent! Ha! Ok, so I want to do something kinda fun for my sisters (who are fandom wannabes) so I would love for you guys to help me out. Please comment on this post with a favourite quote or line or moment, vid or clip from any of Harry Potter (movies or books), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV series only), Angel (TV series), Firefly or Serenity, Dr Horrible, or Doctor Who. But please keep it clean. IE: nothing porny, nothing kinky (like: guh! I love the scene because Draco is clearly about to go down on Snape). Just fun little bits of sharing fandom love.
ALSO! If you have a wish list – I'll be happy to link to it HERE

Date: 2009-12-02 01:31 am (UTC)6 ounces butter (at room temperature)
6 ounces caster sugar (the middle-sized grains, I don't know what you call them, not big, granulated like you put in tea, and not the powdery stuff for frosting, the one in between)
6 ounces self raising flour
3 eggs (at room temperature)
Vanilla essence to taste. (Half a teaspoon?)
1 teaspoon baking powder.
Or: equal quantities of butter, sugar and flour, with 1 egg for every 2 ounces of the other ingredients.
So, as you've shown me that 8 ounces is 1 cup, that would be a cup of each ingredient to 4 eggs.
Cream butter and sugar, add other ingredients. Beat hard until pale and fluffy.
For fairy cakes, put in paper cases and bake for about 15mins, medium heat (gas mark 5), until golden brown and bounce back when a finger in pressed onto them. Ice when cool. For Victoria sandwich, divide the mixture between two round baking tins about 12 inches diameter, bake about 20 mins, until golden brown and bounce back as above. Cool, spread one with jam and butter icing or whipped cream, put the other one on top of it, dust the top with icing sugar.
For pineapple upside down pudding: generously butter the bottom of a heat proof glass bowl, cover butter with brown sugar, drain a tin of pineapple rings and place decoratively around bottom and sides of bowl. Put half a glace cherry in the centre of each ring. Pour on cake mixture. Bake for about 20 - 30 mins, until golden brown as above, but it's also as well to check with a skewer (stick it in and if it comes out clean it's done).
Take it out and let it cool until you can touch it. Get a plate which is bigger than the top of the bowl and place it over. Tip the whole thing upside down so the plate is now on the bottom. The pudding should slip off the bowl, lift the bowl straight up and off. Serve with custard or vanilla ice cream.
I'll check the temperature conversions tomorrow. I just know it's gas mark 5, or the baking oven of an Aga.

Date: 2009-12-01 11:29 pm (UTC)Gingerbread Men
125g (4oz) butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup golden syrup (I have also used treacle to great effect)
2 1/2 cups plain flour, sifted
4 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
♥ Preheat oven to 190 degrees celcius.
♥ Place butter and sugar in bowl, beat with electric beaters until light and creamy.
♥ Add golden syrup, flour, ginger, and bicarbonate of soda and mix to form a smooth dough. Refridgerate for 10 minutes or until firm.
♥ Roll out dough between sheets of nonstick baking paper to 4mm thick. Cut out shapes from the dough using a gingerbread man cookie cutter.
♥ Place on baking tray lined with non stick baking paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on trays.

Hmmmm. Which character should I do a "My so-and-so" for? *ponders*

Date: 2009-12-20 10:55 pm (UTC)This is not a recipe, but it is something that seems to be uniquely New Zealand; Kiwiburgers.
(No actual kiwis are harmed in the making of this 'recipe').
You have to gobble them up quickly, which usually gives you indigestion, otherwise the bun goes soggy and everything falls on your lap or dribbles down your arm.
Usually these are eaten with massive, thick-cut wedges.
*shrugs* We're a strange people.
