Top five reasons Harry/Scorpius makes sense for
snegurochka_lee (who gets the award for HARDEST FUCKING QUESTION EVVER)
Ok, I thought about this long and hard, maybe a full hour, and mostly I came up with stuff like: because it's hot? because I want it to? LOL.
Harry/Scorpius doesn't need to make sense for me. Maybe someone else can find the words to express why, to them, it all is cosmic perfection and everyone should have Harry/Scorpius as their OTP. I'm not that person. What I can tell you is that I enjoy reading Harry/Scorpius because of the following:
- I like the thought that Scorpius grew up with intense feelings for a man his father's age (whether those feelings were hero worship or animosity).
- I like the thought that those feelings Scorpius grew up with were either in line with society (making him just another in the crowd – humiliating to him, I think) or completely against society's view (making him feel unique and proud of his own views).
- You have Scorpius growing up with the influence of his father, his grandfather and his grandmother who all have their own take on Harry Potter. There is a lot of depth there for an author to play with.
- I like that Harry would have an immediate reaction to Scorpius when they encounter each other. His history during the war (and our interpretation of post-war) with Draco also gives an author much to play with in terms of animosity, guilt, suspicion.
- We have all the passion that was part of the Harry/Draco dynamic trickle down to make any type of acquaintance with Scorpius tainted by the influence of the previous generation.
- Regardless of whether a Next Gen fic chooses to have Harry and Scorpius go beyond a mere acquaintance, I like that there is always 'something' there between them. Scorpius will always be the son of Draco Malfoy and all that that entails and Harry will always be the father of Albus/the Hero/the rival of his father and that in itself makes them two characters I like to see respond to each other because it immediately invokes a reaction for me.
I so totally did not answer your question in my babbling, but you love me and will forgive me, yes? ♥

Your Harry/Scorpius reasonings do make sense. And I do agree with them too. And I do kinda like Harry/Scorpius. But I'm just a bit like, but, but, Draco!
I replied to a post on hp_britglish asking for help with where Draco might live in London and where the girl he fancies might live. My immediate reaction was "Ewww. Draco doesn't like girls!" I blame fandom...

Date: 2009-09-10 02:09 pm (UTC)which bigbang are you doing?
Harry/Scorpius in concept works for me easily. Not all executions hit my buttons though. It's a hard one to nail down.
I wrote straight!Draco once. It was a very hard sell. LOL.

I'm writing for [info]harrypotterbang which is any pairing, any fic, any theme etc. But I'm writing Harry/Draco fluffityflangst, using an unclaimed [info]hd_smoochfest prompt which were let loose to spawn fluffy plot bunnies the world over...
Straight!Draco... I just can't see it anymore! I bet it was a hard sell...

Oh, How to Handle an Enemy. Still the hottest thing ever.
I've read very little next/cross gen, so you've given me new, shiny things to read! *loves you* And a list of reasons why, to boot :) *loves you some more*

Date: 2009-09-10 07:55 pm (UTC)Um, it was actually pretty hard. but I went with fics that I felt turned out really strongly/I had fun writing/I think back on fondly. HP Custom Brooms could have been on the list, but the ones I listed I happen to like a little better for what ever reason. :D
I almost listed my Twilight fics but I thought people would think I was kidding.
I'm still waiting on your meme responses!

Date: 2009-09-11 12:35 am (UTC)My list was like this, too. It's funny how different perceptions of a fic can be between author and readers, eh? I love that! I adored Custom Brooms too, but I can see how the author would pick something else. Authors know how easy/hard something was to write, after all. :)
Also, alsdjflskdjf, so much of yours I still haven't read! *bookmarks*

Date: 2009-09-10 06:14 pm (UTC)Peacock Dreams is, I think, the first piece of art I saw from Stella. I was staring at it for so long.. of course, her portfolio has stunned me many times ever since (yes, of course including the banner art!).
I have to go back and read your Teddy's fics (and Burn, Burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!); I used to not read them much—werewolves are still not an appealing creature to me, in general... now that Romaine has convinced me of vampires :))); but Teddy has been growing on me since ...
Harry/Scorpius—All good reasons, including "it's hot" :). I agree with what Romaine said about H/Sc—that she is convinced of it when she writes it. Once I try to put my writing cap on, the appeal suddenly becomes clear. Out of your list, I particularly like these:
I like the thought that those feelings Scorpius grew up with were either in line with society (making him just another in the crowd – humiliating to him, I think) or completely against society's view (making him feel unique and proud of his own views).
Better yet, both!!! :)
Regardless of whether a Next Gen fic chooses to have Harry and Scorpius go beyond a mere acquaintance, I like that there is always 'something' there between them.
Yes! It's called the Potter Antannae or Malfoy-dar :))). They will at least be paying more attention to one another.... a great way to start any relationship; for some reason, as time goes by, the more I see Harry being good/gentle to Scorpius, his way of acknowledging and trying to correct for his history with Draco.
Hopefully, after career fair, I can start on the H/Sc I have in my mind for quite a while... assuming I have time by then; I signed up for sas totally intending to write that up, but oops, Veela is on Mel's squick list ;)...and now I still haven't written a proper H/Sc!!

Date: 2009-09-11 01:53 am (UTC)she is convinced of it when she writes it. that really is a great way to explain it. And you my dear NEED to write that H/Sc that you've been teasing us with for months!

Date: 2009-09-10 06:46 pm (UTC)I think your "babbling" about H/S is not babbling at all. I especially like your third point that no matter what, Harry will have some type of intense reaction when he first sees Scorpius. There's so much history with Draco, and with Scorpius looking so much like him, you know Harry's going to be
hardstruck when they chance to meet.no subject

Date: 2009-09-11 01:48 am (UTC)I've been listening to so much negativity around cross gen and in particular Harry/Scorpius and how it's all PWP and OOC. *sigh* I couldn't figure out how to do quick little bullets that would address why I do like it, without addressing why people don't like it. ya noe?
anyhoo! Glad my ramblings made sense. And yes, Scorpius's impression of Harry (what ever that is) is such a fun premise. Scorpius secretly wanking to Harry's pic knowing his father would ABSOLUTELY DIE if he found out... haha! that never stops being funny. :D

Date: 2009-09-12 02:28 am (UTC)I KNOW. A;LKSJFDLAS. :D
And ehhh, yeah, *treads carefully*... I mean, I know, technically, that some people just like a pairing and some people just don't, and personal preference is totally the name of the game and that's awesome, but... I too have seen a lot of Harry/Scorpius-is-the-most-OOC-idea-ever comments, which strike me as particularly odd when in the same breath, people say that Draco/Al or Draco/James makes way more sense. :/
Lalala. Oh fandom. Never stop with the opinionated-crazy. :)
