[livejournal.com profile] abusing_sarcasm won the first week of [livejournal.com profile] next_gen_ldws with Taking Advantage. zomg! I am so in love with that little drabble! *squishes it* Hahahaha! I wished I'd written it. :D

My entry was a simple gen piece:

Title Little Grey Box
Author [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26
RatingPG
Pairings/Warnings Gen
Prompt: Teddy and a picture of moonstone runes.
Notes Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] leela_cat for the beta.

Staring down at the little grey box, Teddy's smile waned at the size, colour and lack of a bow. But Harry said it was a prezzie, so Teddy lifted the lid and hoped for the best.

Teddy bit his lip. He was old enough to understand that crying was never the right response to a gift.

But they were rocks. They were pretty, with pictures carved into them. Still, rocks!

Then Harry wrapped him in a hug. The kind that hurt his shoulders and made it hard to breathe, but Teddy didn't mind.

Harry explained, "These aren't just rocks, Teddy. They are called runes. The pictures on them mean something."

Harry let go a little, reached into the box and pulled out the biggest rock.

"It's a sun." Teddy announced, proudly.

"Yes. When your mom walked into a room, she always made me smile. No matter how badly it had just rained."

Harry placed the stone in Teddy's hand. It was heavy and smooth. Teddy rubbed his hand over the bumps of the carving and felt his eyes begin to sting.

Harry picked up the next rock. "This one is for your dad. He –"

"It's ok. I already understand that one."

Harry pulled him close again. Teddy figured it was okay to cry with presents, sometimes. Especially if Harry did, too.

Teddy clutched the runes, one in each tiny fist. That night, with his special rocks under his pillow, he dreamed of pink bubblegum and pockets filled with chocolate.

End.

Some [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup recs to come later today, I think.

Happy Monday, my pretties!

*sniff*

How sweet. That was lovely. I feel I should tell you that I am not a fan of drabbles, and most really leave me cold. But I'd like to see this particular scene in a longer fic, because this is a Harry I'd like to get to know. Teddy, too. I'd like to see what led up to this. Ok, that's asking for a lot I suppose. Because usually, when people write drabbles, that's all they're after. Part of the reason I don't like them, I guess.

Thanks for reading, hun! I often feel the same way about drabbles. When they capture my attention they cna be simply marvelous, but it is very difficult to do in so few words.

I do like this Harry and Teddy, but I'm not sure I'll expand on it. I can only do cute and sweet for so long. ;)

"I can only do cute and sweet for so long. ;)"

LOL! Well, I can see there being a whole entire story leading up to this which would have very little of the cute and sweet. But that's just me.
*hugs you*

Do you ever read [livejournal.com profile] moonlitdark's drabbles? She's the best drabble writer I know. She says SO MUCH in those 100 words.
