Last week, I invited my flist to Rec me ANYTHING. This week it's caught on as a meme!!! Yeah! ♥s to everyone on my flist that is having fun with this. It's like fandom-unity week or something. Tear down those walls! :D

I've finished all the fics I was recced! It was so much fun. I will do this again, soon.

Link to my comments on the first five

(Snape/Willow - Buffy/HP crossover) Learning to Deceive by WeyrWolfen WIP
When I saw this rec… a long, Snape/Willow, crossover, WIP … well I nearly died. But that's what all this is about right? Heathen said: I had to rec it here – you'd never read it otherwise. And she was right. I wouldn't have touched it. And that is a shame. This fic was great. The writer has an excellent feel for both fandoms and the premise is GOLD. It's an HP-book 5 re-write and BtVS- post-Chosen. The Order needs help and looks to the "New" Counsel of Watchers to get their support because the Ministry is still in denial. They exchange a few key members and Willow ends up co-teaching at Hogwarts with Snape. See? Gold. Scenes like Willow talking plugs with Arthur Weasley and Delores Umbridges condescension at Willow's 'Muggle Magic', it's fabulous. I'm itching for the next chapter so [livejournal.com profile] heathen_ursidae? You got me into this, you are in charge of making sure I know exactly when the next one comes out, kay?

(Harry/Luna/Neville) Moving Pictures by noticeably
This is a wonderful friendship-bond threesome, ie: their no sex, just an amazing friendship and hints of more. I can't think of anyone better to heal a broken Harry than the two sweetest people in canon, Luna and Neville. Harry is very lost and not asking for help. The fic, like those two friends, is quiet and subtle and leads Harry to healing.

(Legolas/Aragorn - LOTR) Solstice by [livejournal.com profile] surreysmum
er… wow. This was my first LOTR fic. It was wow. Gorgeous. The writing style is intense and very Tolkienish – don't read that as boring or complicated, I mean rich. Incredible rich and fascinating. The writer obviously has a wonderful grasp of Tolkien lore (I'm sure there is a proper word for that that would easily be translated into elfish or something). I thought when I started it, I would just be seeing Viggo/Orlando but the writing transported me back into the Council of Elrond. Reading this was a great experience, I am in awe of anyone that writes in this fandom.

(draco/ginny) the best-laid plans of theodore nott
So Superheroes! Yup, in this cute little fic, Ginny is a fabulous superhero that saves helpless Muggles with her SuperHero powers! Of course, she's just a witch, on a broom. But put her in spandex and a mask and to Muggles she's a real superhero. Draco, while up to no good, accidentally becomes a sidekick. I think the concept is hilarious.

(Harry/Draco) The Arrangement by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime
Piratesmile recced this saying that these are her vision of adult Harry and adult Draco and how they would likely interact with each other. And yeah, I totally see that. There's no pink hearts and flowers and puppies. There is raw, aching emotion. There is passion and need. There are misunderstanding and long histories. This is the core of HD. There relationship is not dysfunctional or unhealthy, just no where near schmoopy. And under it all there is a true Mean2Be LOVE. Incredible fic.

BONUS: I added this one because [livejournal.com profile] frantic_mice recced it last week outside of my request for recs, but it's her brilliant idea that started all this so I placed it here.
(Jon/Brendon - Panic @ the Disco) Dressing Gown Blues by [livejournal.com profile] frankkincense
Ok, my second bandom fic! And seriously? This baby is adorable. I really, really love frankkincense's style. The fic is light and easy to read, the writing is crisp and the humour is sharp. I was like 'who cares that I don't know who these guys are, I desperately think they need to kiss RIGHT NOW.' Fabulous fic.

Now you need to read the rest of the Arrangement fics. Because they get better, if that it humanly possible. Especially my favourite, Perfect Potter, which is the third in the series. They're all at skyhawke...

How funny! That was the first of the fics I read, and definitely the most memorable for my money. I really like the series, particularly the way the dynamic remains the same while the relationship changes.

I just absolutely adore how Ru writes the boys. I almost always cry when I read a new one, just because the boys ring SO TRUE in my mind in her stories. I remember the first time I read the first one, and I really didn't know until the end whether they were going to stay together or not. I think I cried with relief at that one! *lol* I can't get over how deeply felt their emotions towards each other are, and how well Ru expresses that...
I love Perfect Potter, because I love Andrew, and feel so bad for him when he realizes he has NO SHOT when Draco appears. And how Draco knows immediately that Andrew fancies Harry, but isn't threatened by it at all. And that love scene (I can't call it a sex scene); I just feel like I'm melting every time that I read it.

omg you'd never read the arrangement series before? it is seriously my fave thing EVER. i'm nuts about everything [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime writes, and that arc is just..god, i don't even have words to explain how much i love it.

good to see you liked the draco/ginny ;)

the snape/willow fic sounds interesting but i still don't think i can read it. if willow had to pair up with a prof, i wish it'd been someone else :P

Mmmmm Willow/McGonagall?

LOL. I think I'll take Snape. ;)

Actually, reading it I would adore Willow/Harry, if the fic was set in 6th or 7th year. Willow early twenties in this one, I'm guessing.

HAHAHA omg willow/mcgonagall! i was thinking more along the lines of willow/remus ;) i think they'd get along splendidly. even willow/ron would be fun to read - i think they'd have an interesting dynamic.

or willow/bill MM MM MM.

my mind drifted off into Willow/remus land after I commented. So many possibilities.

But willow/bill. yeah, I could totally handle that.

I think for me, the hardest things about crossovers is when they involve only secondary characters. I want to know what Harry thinks about Willow and what Willow thinks about Harry. He *is* the series, especially from the perspective of someone just walking into the 'verse. So even though he is 15 at the moment, his reactions are still the most important to me.

I feel like I am missing something when I am reading a HP crossover as if Harry doesn't matter.

yes, i understand what you mean. but wouldn't you say that's true for any pairing that doesn't involve harry, regardless of whether it's a canon, non-canon or crossover ship?

Date: 2009-01-28 04:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com
well... sometimes. It depends on the writing and the timing.

Mostly it's with crossovers though. But sometimes it could be a pairing like Draco/Hermione or Draco/Ron that directly impact a change to canon. If it's set during canon, I'd like to know where Harry stands.

Arrangement is THE BOMB. Probably the one series I'd take with me to a desert island if I could only take one.

she writes angst so well too! did you read the one where harry and draco are in the arctic? with the penguins? i cried in bed for a while after i finished that one.

I'm not much for angst, but I have read that one. She breaks my heart. She has a very angsty mpreg WIP that I couldn't keep myself from reading, either. I don't know if she'll ever finish that.
One of my favourites of hers is this one shot: Disintegrate (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=4386&chapter=1&font=&size=).
And she can be very funny, too; have you ever read Business as Usual (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=14345&chapter=1&font=&size=)? It was her 2006 [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays fic. I never would have known it was hers, but only because it's so funny. (I should have known, though, because there's a part near the end that made me cry because it's so poignant.)
It's so nice to share my Ru fangirlishness with someone!

No problem. I have email alerts in place. I'll ping you when it updates. Sadly, this is part of a sane online fandom, where people update once a month and have lives. :P

I'm glad you liked it. It's taking a while to get the trio involved, but I like the detail she writes, so I've been willing to wait so far.

Date: 2009-01-28 04:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com
I am curious about the trio in the sense of "I wonder if Harry thinks Willow's hot" or "I wonder if Hermione and Willow could form a great friendship". With the trio being so young, I'm content with them being on the sidelines. Their influence would really change the 'Willow in the adult word' theme that is going on.

That said, I would have loved to see the same story told as a Willow/Harry or something... Or even to know what Draco thinks of this new teacher... *maggie's mind goes to naughty places*

Anyway - I really adore this fic, as is! So please. I am dieing for the next chapter. What is up with these people and their lives outside of fanfiction. sheesh! :D
