Summary: In which the boys pretend to still be together for Christmas (and there is more than one kind of charade).

This fic has been recced everywhere it seems, but I need to rec it too because it was wonderful. Lovely, lovely achy-angst. Recently broken up Arthur and Merlin must endure a Christmas party with all their friends who think they are still together. This is a messy, ugly break-up with intense emotions and deep cuts, each of them trying to bury their hurt behind cutting remarks and truly cruel words that only someone who once loved you deeply could manage. But despair not! The pain is fuelled by passion and the emptiness they feel without each other. It is clear they wouldn’t be trying so hard to hate each other if there was nothing left. The conclusion is truly satisfying in its realistic explanation of the break-up and final resolution.

Natural Selection by minor_hue [NC-17] (11k)
Summary: In which Arthur goes on blind dates, Merlin is his waiter, and everyone takes a ride on the crazy train.

A hilarious story of worst.blind.dates.ever. and a very sweet waiter that makes it all bearable. Beneath that, there’s a story of a man who has no appreciation for intimacy discovering that finding someone worthy of sharing true intimacy with is harder than he ever thought but when he does, it’s well worth the effort. Funny, sweet, romantic and well-written. A joy to read.

An Unshakeable Desire by riventhorn [NC-17] (12k)
Summary: Arthur meets a boy in the rain. A dirty, poor, insolent peasant. A common whore. But Arthur can't stop thinking about him... written for prompt that requested a hooker!Merlin fic set in Camelot.

Warnings: dub-con, some non-con and violence. This is not an easy read, mind the warnings. Riventhorn (who also wrote Leashed) has a talent for this type of victim!Merlin. I find reading someone being completely helpless extremely hard. :/ I did have to skim the non-con. Lalalla... BUT it was such a great story. A Merlin who wanted to believe in Arthur, to believe he was more than the rich prat, more than yet another noble willing to treat him like garbage. And I love seeing Arthur struggle with meeting these expectations and rising to be a better man. Also, hot, hot dub-con if that’s your kink. :D

No Regrets by troygirl68 [NC-17] (12k)
Summary: 'Arthur and Merlin used to be together. Then they split up, but while Arthur acts naturally and a little bit cheeky in front of Merlin, Merlin gets shy and is more reserved.' It turns out, though, neither of them has moved on.

Poor broken Arthur! Daddy really made a mess of you, didn’t he? We start the fic with Arthur and Merlin having been in a relationship which Arthur felt was entirely casual and easy and Merlin didn’t. When Merlin wanted to be treated better than a fuck-buddy, Arthur balked. Now Arthur’s forced to deal with Merlin’s (and all their mutual friends') disappointment in him. Another character journey for Arthur and his intimacy issues! YAY!

Finding Home by riventhorn [NC-17] (8k)
Summary: Written for kinkme_merlin prompt: When Gaius retires, a new physician takes over, one that quickly kicks Merlin out of his room and takes it for himself, Arthur finds Merlin sleeping in the stables..and it's winter.

HURT/COMFORT! This is such a wonderful ‘Arthur must take care of Merlin’ fic. If the image of Arthur finding a cold, shivering Merlin and wrapping him up warm and feeding him makes you squee, you are going to love this fic. I did.

The Lure Would Prove Too Much by minor_hue [NC-17] (4k)
Summary: In which Arthur fucks Merlin for a hazing ritual (and then there is talk about wallpaper).

This is such a filthy fic and absolutely delicious. I think the most important thing that this fic managed is for Merlin to never look like a ‘victim of a prank.’ He is without question willing to have Arthur fuck him in front of a bunch of straight frat boys. He’s actually egging Arthur on as much as the audience. It’s also the kind of fic you want to read again immediately after finishing. JFSDJFD!!!

If you are thinking I’m a creepy stalker person who finds an author she likes and scours their back-catalogue, devouring everything in sight, I would say you are quite right.
