hp_weekend_fics

so... right. I brought procrastination to a new level yesterday. There are no words for how productive I was at everything but actually writing. :D

I have exciting news though!!! a new comm! (well there's two I need to talk about, but I'll pimp vaysh and chantafable's one later) For now, let's talk about long and plotty fics. I don't write them, but MAN do I love them. I adore getting lost in a story and just... yeah... you know what I'm talking about. Where nothing else fills your head but that complex universe and the well fleshed-out cast of characters? That's just an incredible experience.

If you agree, check out hp_weekend_fics! It's the brain child of romaine24 and looks like a lot of fun. We are starting with what will be a FANTASTIC fic this Sunday. Long plotty (and maybe a bit prony) goodness by a wonderful author.

We'll be starting with m/m slash fics, but eventually we'd like to post two fics per weekend one of slash and one of het, femmeslash or gen depending on the fics that are offered to be posted to the comm.

Merlin Recs

Leashed by riventhorn [NC-17] (~20k)
Summary: In the fashion described regarding the treatment of Damane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damane) in The Wheel of Time, rather than killing all sorcerers, Uther has a select few "leashed" and enslaved to the service of his armies. Merlin is leashed and Arthur is his master.

I am drawn to slave fics because I find the idea of them erotic, but mostly they are too dark for me and I stop reading very quickly. This one was a nice balance of romance and kink and angst. The slave aspect was not under played, but Arthur's treatment of Merlin tempered the hopelessness of it. And the sex was unbelievably hot.

Prince Goldilocks by rotrude [PG-13] (15k)
Summary: Merlin is the King of Dyfed's magical ambassador and has to ask for Arthur's hand on behalf of his king.

This is an incredibly fluffy fairytale. And while fluff is not my thing in general, this fic is told in such a classic fairytale style it really just works. Lots of fun adventure and hints of underlying UST. This fic is a whole lot of fun and a joy to read.

Backfire by oxoniensis [NC-17] (8k)
Summary: In which there are giant ears, a curious cat, backfiring spells, a stick figure Arthur, some unfortunate truths and some very welcome ones.

OMG! This fic is killer funny. There is something about the author's humour that just struck a cord with me and *brusts out laughing* yeah… this fic is just adorable. I giggled and snickered and guffawed my way through it.

Neither fish nor fowl by adelagia [PG-13] (11k)
Summary: Trusses of flowers, personalised letters and whole roast chicken had always been sure-fire ways to win a person's heart, at least in Arthur's experience. Merlin's heart, however, was an entirely different story.

Future fic with King Arthur and Court Sorcerer Merlin. Arthur's POV in this fic is really quite ramblingly adorable. He's quite lame at trying to woo an oblivious Merlin and his jealousy of Merlin's block-headed (but cute!) apprentice is very amusing. Charming fic, all around.
