I adored this fic. It was for my prompt and one of my favourite pairings and one of my favourite authors … so I’m as biased as the day is long. BUT!!! BUT!!! This is so brilliantly done. I’ve been thinking about it since I read it and trying to find the words to rec it. It’s an incredibly psychologically complex fic, despite being a pwp on the surface. The most impressive thing about this fic is Harry. Harry is brilliantly IC... one of the most in character Harry’s I’ve seen set so far post-DH. He is happily married. He is mature, confident, fatherly, and has this Saviour complex with makes the solution to this problem inevitable. So Harry is perfect. But the piece of the story that stuck in my head and won’t let me go is the imperfect POV. The story is told through Scorpius, who is young and naive and eager and desperate and terribly insecure (as we see not only through his interactions with Harry, but through the glimpses of backstory and his interactions with the other next gen kids). Because of this, Scorpius’s POV is incredibly tainted, and the reader need to interpret what is actually happening by the characters behaviour and what we know of them and not necessarily what Scorpius wants to believe. The third key element of this fic comes unexpectedly from Scorpius’s best friend, Rose. Who is barely in the fic, and yet her impact on past, current and future events is undeniable.

The fic itself is not romantic in any stretch of the word. It is an uncomfortable read. Hot, don’t get me wrong... it hits all the buttons I wanted hit by this prompt of ‘forced sex’ but you are never not aware of the consequences of what is happening even while you are desperate for them to happen anyway. In my comment I called it a hot mess. It is. It’s complicated and thought provoking and beautifully told but oh-so hot and oh-so messy.

It’s like Christmas. In April. With porn (eventually). The first chapter is incredible and everything I could hope for, engaging and clever. The plot of this epic is well setup. The characters are fantastic. I am already in LOVE Scorpius and he's only 9 by the end of the chapter. Harry and Scorpius are each broken in their own way, a wonderful mix of power and vulnerability, needing healing and just waiting for the *cough*inevitable*cough*. While this is being posted in chapters, it is not a WIP. The author has committed to posting long chapters every second day until it is complete. I'm all buckled up for a wild ride for the next week or two. Join me?

Scorpius is 17 here, but it reads like a dirty, dirty chan, imo – all stolen innocence and very dubious consent. *shivers* Fray does not shy away from a truly dark Harry – and fantasy or not, I just want to grab both my boys and snuggle them. Still – wow – an absolutely unforgettable piece of writing.

So, mystery author please forgive anything that I give away. ***********THE REST OF MY REC IS VERY SLIGHTLY SPOILERY FOR THE COUPLE SCENES********The fic starts with Draco worried about Scorpius's reaction to Astoria's death and who he is hanging around these days. I LOVE THAT. How simple and practical and real. Immediately we know that Scorpius is 'interesting' because any pretty rich boy who is 'hanging out with the wrong sort' after his mother's death is instantly interesting. And then OMG it's not just loitering about on street corners it's working in a tattoo parlour. At which point, I fainted from the nnnnnnnnnngh and woke on the floor with a nasty bruise to the head. But OMG! Tattoos. Yes, I listed it as a kink and sometimes it's meh and sometimes it's fucking-blow-my-mind-erotic and Yes. The author nailed it. The tattoos become a character of their own in the story and plot device to move things along, highly erotic and deeply metaphorical. Tattoos done WELL, people. Srsly. Now the best thing about all of this is that while you are reading, Harry is a wee bit off kilter. Harry is very much like Harry in a lot of H/Sc and yet I knew this was going to be different. I just felt it in my gut there was more and yes, I do love tropes turned on their head. If you read and start to think 'meh, same old, same old,' have faith. It is well written and tight and clever. Also MINE!!!!!!!!!

Yes, 30k. And absolutely worth every minute you will spend reading it. I think I've read it 3 times now. Oh! The joys of being a mod. ;) It is a vampire creature!fic and frankly the best I've read in HP fandom. I adore the depth of the plot. The author clearly researched and contemplated the different ways of approaching the topic of vampires. The result is an interesting take on vampire lore that is both erotic and fascinating. The supporting cast of Draco, Lucius and Al make for a well rounded, engaging fic. And regardless of pairings, it is one of the best fics I've ever read. Incredibly well done.
