James loved this old couch. He and Teddy had sat on it so many times, laughing, knocking shoulders, and talking shit. It was here – late one Saturday night, drunk more on the company than the Firewhiskey – that James had realised he was gay. He’d looked over and saw Teddy smiling at him, his hazel eyes all crinkled at the edges, and heat had spread through his chest and warmed him until he flushed. He’d realised then that if only Teddy had been interested, James would have stretched out on this couch and let himself be taken, no matter that Teddy was Dad’s godson, no matter that he was seven years older.

After that, he’d thought about it for months, late at night with his hand beneath the covers and Teddy’s name on his lips. But Teddy was as straight as an arrow, and Scorpius was gorgeous and lovely and so very willing.

Now he looked down at Scorpius, his pale cheeks rosy and his eyes wide and nervous. It seemed right that James lose his virginity here, on Teddy’s couch, even if it was Scorpius beneath him and not Teddy on top. He wasn’t settling, not really. Scorpius didn’t come second to anyone, and James truly adored him. But James liked to think of this as a compromise.

And Teddy hadn’t minded. He’d readily agreed when James had asked to use his flat for some privacy for his and Scorpius’s first time. Teddy had looked away, had cleared his throat before agreeing. But James had expected worse, maybe a bit of a lecture about being too young.

Now, as James reached for Scorpius, with the fabric of Teddy’s couch soft at his bare knees, James was grateful that a little bit of Teddy was there for him at this moment.

... but it was two hot guys naked on a couch
Yeah, that's what they always say. *grin*

I love the line about Scorpius coming second to noone, even if Teddy was James' first love. :)

NNNNGGGG YESSSSSSS. D: It's a bit sad that Scorpius is more a compromise than anything else, but still incredibly hot that "a little bit of Teddy was there" with James for this moment. Nng. So hot and sweet and lovely.

Oh Maggie, I don't mind at all. I went and reread the first drabble, and it was so sad, and this one is too. Oh James, if he only knew. I feel that he loves Scorpius though. Beautiful angst. ♥

I love it, thank you so much!! xx

Ouch! Just read both of these and I'm all angsty now. Oh, Teddy! Oh, James! I can't wait to see Scorpius' take on it all.

I first read this without realizing it was a sequel and thought it wasn't too angsty; yes it has an element of unrequited love, but the affection between Scorpius and James also seemed genuine. But now I read it's prequel... It's so much more sad now!!

But wonderful series! I do love angst like this! Poor guys!
