I'm double posting my gifts today. I'm sure that's against some December gifting rules, but life's about to get crazy(ier) so forgive me. :)

The tingle of magic woke him. Gwaine remained still, kept his breathing steady even as the pendant on his necklace warmed. Gwaine focused on the feel, the warmth pressing down on his chest and absorbing into his skin. His body hummed in response, recognising the thrum of power that slipped from Merlin’s fingers when his walls were down. He could picture Merlin’s face now, open and sincere, focused on his task with an intensity that would surprise many.
Merlin hadn’t told Gwaine, hadn’t confided in him yet. Gwaine tried not to think about why that was; he wasn’t the sort to push. He had his own secrets to keep. He waited until Merlin finished, until Merlin’s cheek settled back against his chest. Soon there was a clatter in the courtyard and he played the part of being startled awake.
Merlin’s lips were warm and soft beneath his as they kissed their good mornings. Gwaine reluctantly rose and dressed, resisting the urge touch the pendant. His fingertips itched to feel the spark of Merlin's magic.
Merlin sat up in bed and plucked at a loose thread. “Be careful today.”
“I wouldn’t dare.” Gwaine waited for Merlin to look up and winked. “I wouldn’t be me if I were careful.”
Merlin’s face shuttered. “Just don’t... get yourself killed.” There was something desperate in Merlin’s eyes, something that said, I cannot lose another.
Gwaine swallowed back his flippant reply. His hand rose to pat his pendant and he smiled. “I’ll be fine.”
