These are two wonderful reads with sadly few comments.

Title: The Girl in the Formal Dress

I adore Lily Luna Potter, and this is one of most interesting characterizations I've seen. She is entirely compelling and yet distant - that is not to say she is cold, the complete opposite she is steaming hot - but a complete enigma to both the reader and to Scorpius. She's irresistible. Like Scorpius, we don't really need all the details to fall in love.


Title: Mirror Inverted
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: Teddy/Snape, Lupin/Snape (non-graphic Teddy/Victoire, Lupin/Tonks)
Warnings: Infidelity, obsession, dwelling on dreams. Rimming, voyeurism.
Word Count: ~ 9,700

In this fic Teddy journeys from the sorting feast to well into adult life, learning about his father and trying to accept the reality of who Remus Lupin was and why his dear father looked so old and sad in all the pictures. Headmaster Snape follows him, unasked for and unwanted through his discoveries. A wonderful look at the Mirror of Erised.

More hp10k_showcase recs later. We are getting into fics that I didn't read pre-posting and I'm falling way behind.

oh i LOVED the first story - so glad to see it recced here :D i'm almost 99% sure it's by one of my fave authors, i'm just waiting to see if i'm correct ;)

Oh, yay! I missed that first one; shall have to go back. And the Teddy/Snape is bloody brilliant! I can't believe it doesn't have more comments, either. But then, Springsmut is always an odd duck that way, and readers' attention has been spread pretty thin this year, I think. But man, that's a great story. :)

And yeah, that Teddy/Snape is WIN. OMG. I read it twice. Not too dark and mindfucky... just a tad twisted and OMG who hasn't wanted to shout "Show me your ugly flesh!" at Snape at one point or another. :D

Really, Sc/Lily over Sc/Rose? Okay, hold on. *gets comfy* I've got fresh coffee now. Watch out. :) See, here's my take on those pairings (which has nothing to do with the story above, 'cuz I haven't read it): For me, it pretty much comes down to the Ron factor. Ron would be so pissed off if Rose was dating Scorpius. :))) I love that about it. Also, I just love dad!Ron, maybe even more than dad!Draco or dad!Harry for some reason, even though those are tops too. And one thing I like about nextgen pairings in general is the parents learning about the kids' relationships and being all, "o_O."

With Lily, see, there's Ginny who could get mad, but tbh, I'm not that interested in Ginny. *tosses her aside* :) And then if Harry gets involved, I get distracted and either want him to go for Scorpius, or to have it out with Draco. *G*

Rose solves those issues for me. It's the same idea of a forbidden romance, but with the added drama of, if Ron finds out, I'm not going to get distracted picturing him with Scorpius or Draco instead (and I like Ron/Draco! But just, not like this). Also, I like Hermione more than Ginny, so having her involved as a mother, too, trying to give advice or calm Ron down... that all appeals to me.

Lalalalalala. *drinks more coffee* Um, I might have given this a wee bit of thought. :)

ok, so here is why you are so totally wrong I tend to disagree.

Pissed off Ron is one of my favourite. things. ever. so i'm all on board with that part of Scorpius/Rose and yes, Harry is so deliciously fuckable he does tend to mess up anything with Draco or Scorpius (or Lucius *cough*) that isn't supposed to be about him.

But when i compare Rose and Lily, Lily wins in my mind every time. Where Rose feels (to me) like a quiet bookworm, 'my' Lily has Ginny's fire but not her insecurity (which I really detest) and Harry's fearlessness and propensity for trouble.

Also, lusting after your older brother's bestfriend/rival/boyfriend hits lots of buttons.

AND the Rose characterizations that I've read have kinda killed her for me. Scorpius is doting and loving and treats 'quiet, sweet Rose' like a delicate flower.

As oppose to fucking Lily against the wall of a dirty toilet. *g*

(I'm hoping your recs will change the above tropes for me.)

btw - do you ever like Draco/Hermione?

I haven't actually read much Lily Jr fic in general, to be fair. When I have, I usually back out quickly because it's sort of firecracker!Sue that just doesn't work for me. It might be residual about not really liking Ginny as firecracker!Sue, either. :/ But, see, my biggest thing about nextgen characterisations in general is that the author not treat them as random OCs, but extrapolate as best they can from what we do know of their parents in canon. IMO only, most of the good Rose fic I've read does that better than the Lily fic I've read. Rose does feel like a quiet bookworm, agreed, which I suppose I like. In the fic I've read with them, Rose tends to need to be coaxed out of some shell (or, convinced to bother with an idiot like a Malfoy, *g*), whereas Lily is tossing her knickers aside at the drop of a hat. I don't know... normally that wouldn't bother me, but it does for Sc/Lily. *shrug* I see what you mean about the delicate flower business, though, which no, I wouldn't probably go for. I like when Rose (or Hermione, for that matter) is like, "Bugger off; I'm studying and you're an asshole." And then she slowly falls for him despite herself. :)

AHAHAH, okay! Fair enough. :) But! That's also related to another of my objections, which is that, if Scorpius is hanging out with Potter children and is, moreover, interested in fucking them, why in God's name would he choose the girl? *massive headscratch* No, really. :D Unless James and Al are maimed somehow, I cannot buy him going het for Lily. :D I'm picky about my Scorpius het, I suppose, is what it comes down to. Hugo isn't the same for me as that sort of factor, but that could just be because he's been so invisible in fic up till now (which is now changing, I know).

One of my recs will be a wonderful infidelity story where Scorpius is engaged to Lily but sleeping with/falling in love with Rose. Maybe that's the one that gave me all these characterisation ideas, because it really contrasts the girls in ways I... agree with. :)

I do like Draco/Hermione! Only if it's really well done, though. I have a few great ones bookmarked that I've been meaning to do a themed rec post about. Het!Draco is a dirty, secret kink for me, lol.

firecracker!sue. ah, yes. That is certainly why Harry/Ginny either in fandom or canon fails for me. But Lily wears it differently, in my head. Now I'm dead curious if you will like the fic I just recced. OH!!! Read it!

Gosh, I never quite realised how slutty Lily is in fanon. Jeepers, where does that come from? Slutty fanon!Ginny, I suppose. Maybe just 'I'm not your little sister/HP's little girl anymore'.

yup, that does it for me. I like the 'I'm too smart to fall for your act' bookworm type. Especially with Lucius/Hermione. OMG! We are such closet het lovers!!!! ack! we should take this coversation out of the public before someone reads this!

Really, this is all moot anyway, because my dirty little secret is Draco/Lily. I seriously adore that pairing like WOaH! so Scorpius can have Rose, if Draco can have Lily. And Harry and Ron can drown their sorrows in firewhiskey. :D
