Summary: Uther fears his son's power, and Merlin has helped Arthur flee to escape imprisonment. Now the two of them must fight to regain Arthur's rightful place in Camelot.

A wonderful plotty fic about Arthur's destiny. Very moving and heart warming in that way you feel when Arthur is the man you want him to be and Merlin stands proudly at his side. Excellent read. One of my favourites of this type of fic.

Coming Of Age by destiny_fic [NC-17] (18448 words)
Summary: "An orgy. The celebrations for Arthur's 21st birthday were a three-day orgy." So yeah, lots of sex...though I'll be honest, and the orgy part is pretty limited, it's mostly just Merlin/Arthur. This is ridiculously sappy porn. I am a sap, I'll admit it...but that'll be pretty easy to see once you've read through this.

I think the author does a great job in the summary of preparing the reader for what's ahead. There is porn and nudity and lots of it. But also a really beautiful love story that makes the porn that much more enjoyable. This isn't a 'and the fairies made everyone shag' fic. There are real emotions and confusion and um, lots and lots of hot, hot sex.

What Child Is This by lamardeuse [NC-17] (30,000 words)
Summary: Modern AU. Based (very loosely) on the 1939 movie – Bachelor Mother - with David Niven and Ginger Rogers. A child is left in Arthur's father's department store and found by Merlin.

A sweet, sweet fic. Merlin and Arthur's journey to being annoyed by each other, to needing each other to friends and more is classic (canon) fanon and very well done. The baby and their slow journey about learning about parenting is very well done, without being overwhelmingly 'cutesy'.

The World Under Heaven, Here All Is Lent by takadainmate [PG?] (20k?)
Summary: [mine] Arthur and Merlin are attacked by 'something' while travelling. Arthur is hurt and Merlin must care for him and get them home while attempting to still keep his magic secret.

This fic is an excellent Action/Adventure story with great characterization. I love the portrayal of both Arthur and Merlin here, great snark with just enough UST and compassion between them that it feels very canon. A very well told story and I didn't notice the lack of porn for a minute.

Four Times Merlin Cock-Blocked Arthur, and One Time He Didn't by oxoniensis [R] (3690 words)
Summary: He doesn't mean to the first time. Truly. It was an honest mistake.

Short little fic that is just fun, fun, fun. Merlin's obliviousness to what is happening is pure win. Charming.

BBC's Merlin canon questions

I've got a bunch of dumb questions about Merlin and canon and such. Does anyone out there know the answers or where I might get them? I'm scared to post this to a giant Merlin comm and be mocked. :P But I will if I need to.

1. Do we know for certain what the ages of Merlin and Arthur are? Are there generally accepted approximate ages? Merlin younger, yes?

2. Is there any kind of lexicon type thing like HP Lexicon where you can easily research stuff that is canon vs. fanon? Please tell this exists somewhere.

3. Is there any site or someone's post that compares BBC's Merlin to Arthurian legend?

4. Is there an easy to read/quick summary somewhere of Arthurian Legend (and yes, I do understand there are many sources, many versions) for someone who never studied it in school or grew up with it steeped in their tea?
