The Avalon Band by lolafeist [NC-17] (3k) Arthur/Merlin
Summary: Starforce Captain Arthur Pendragon sets out on a two-man deep space mission—on a ship fueled by magic.

I love this wild AU. It’s sparse and yet the setting just ‘pops’, it’s just enough info to understand the characters and their places in the grand scheme of things and add texture to the wonderful interactions between Merlin and Arthur. A fabulous ride for just 3k, and one I won’t soon forget.

A Knight To Remember by ladyvader [NC-17] (6k) Arthur/Merlin
Summary: Merlin attends Gwen's hen night, and finds that the strippers are even more than he could hope for.

This fic is a bit crack-o-licious but it also somehow pulls on real emotions, so while the funny is outrageously funny, it also made me tear up and my chest ached and beyond that panty-melting hot. Really fun fic.

Off the Hook by leashy_bebes [R] (6k) Gwaine/Merlin
Summary: Gwaine thinks about battles and freedom and loyalty. But mainly he thinks about Merlin.

This is a delicate sort of fic. Hard to describe. It Gwaine being introspective about his own life and his choices while he watches Merlin bear the burden of Camelot’s rise to greatness. It’s not overly angsty despite all that, but very reflective, a man watching his love and wanting to protect him from everything but knowing it’s impossible. I loved Gwaine recognising the importance of Merlin's destiny and his relationship with Arthur in this fic.

A beautiful comic, with gorgeous colouring and a lovely style. And the dialogue makes for a great canon Merlin and Arthur moment.

As an aside... I love this artist’s work I have no idea how I hadn’t seen any of her stuff before last week but she also has some great art for riverthorn’s Knights of the Air... and lots more. Check out her Masterpost Though mind the warnings for character deaths and blood and stuff...

I can't even remember doing a snippet anywhere, so don't feel bad. Everything is a blur. I don't think I've done a comment fest snippet in like two months!

I sort of wanted this to be a longer story and then realized it would devolve into angst for like nine million pages so I ended with porn, as all things should end I suppose. Ahhhhh ha.

anyway way! I meant i loved the snippet of THIS fic that you did for that music fest. I remember loving it then and wanting more and I was thrilled that you gave use this. And I liked the length - I'm weird like that. But as much as the universe settle clearly in my mind, I liked that I wasn't dragged through the angst of it. them thinking this is it, they may arrive, but never return. :(((

So sparse and intense and thought provoking and hot like burning all wrapped up into 3k. Can't ask for anything else.

Aw I'm so glad it worked for you. I prefer fics that are 3-10k as a reader so I feel you on length. I'm one of the few people who doesn't actually crave big bang length fics most of the time. My attention span leaves much to be desired.

Coming out of an angsty fic definitely made me less likely to drag the reader through the angst, though I did privately perv on the thought of Merlin becoming more physically drained and needing lots of extra cuddling and that resulting in kind of sleep-sex type stuff and la la la, my brain goes there hard. I think they get there, and that there is where they want to be.


I could never give Merlin and Arthur a sad ending.
