In terms of comparing Merlin to something...

My kids have started to watch Inspector Gadget every morning.

For those that may not know (or remember) the basic premise of each episode is as follows:
With the help of his niece (Penny) and her dog (Brain), Gadget inadvertently saves the day, his nemesis escapes and his boss arrives to congratulate Gadget on a job well done. Gadget is left clueless as to what actually is going on and Penny and Brain's help remains a secret.

Sound familiar Merlin fans?

So... I'm seriously starting to wonder if it is in fact Inspector Gadget and not Superman that JCapps has watched too much of. :/

Needless to say this damn cartoon is endlessly annoying because I can't unsee the comparison and thinking of Arthur as Inspector Gadget is SO DAMN WRONG. *scrubs brain* (er.. that is my brain, not the dog Brain... I think I need more sleep and less cartoons). Hold me.

Omfg, I remember that cartoon!
*holds you*

I loved Inspector Gadget when I was a child, and the intro song! It got stuck in my brain and still hasn't left it. But Inspector Gadget as Arthur? ... NOOOO O_o

[identity profile] sabriel75.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspector Gadget is soooo annoying and yet the theme song and something about the Inspector always captivated my attention when my daughter watched it thus establishing it as the devil back in the day.

That and Caillou because OMG the whining!

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Da-da-da-da-da Inspector Gadget!

*hugs*

[identity profile] leashy-bebes.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, oh man, this is like when I couldn't unsee the Merlin + Arthur = Jeeves + Wooster connection (largely cause of things like this (http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lefg2xNDD41qziulwo1_r1_1280.png?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1294324352&Signature=fXO%2By8iscaCx96LP44fR%2FrJxRcU%3D)). My sympathies, bb <3

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*clings*

It's soooo wrong! And yet... Penny IS SO MERLIN. DNW!!!!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The intro song has been in my head since we got this stupid channel (a retro cartoon channel) the week before Christmas.

Can't UNSEE!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Caillou is HORRIBLE. I hate that show with a passion. Actually more than any other cartoon out there.

The Inspector himself is oddly endearing in his childlike obliviousness. But the theme song is a total brain worm. *headdesk*

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
ahaha! exactly. :D
*squish*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*Holds you!* Can't be the same, Arthur is hot! It's more Jeeves and Wooster ;-)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Great minds ... (see below))

[identity profile] wordflake.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Go Gadget go! Badapada badapada. Go Gadget go!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAH!!!

Fortunately I've never watched Jeeves and Wooster and am completely immune to the evil of that connection. *g*

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I find knocked unconscious Arthur much less attractive, and unfortunately can see the inspector gadget in him easily in those moments. :((

But hee! Jeeves and Wooster is amusing, though.

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
stooooooooooooooooooooooooop!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOR THE LOVE OF CAMELOT! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that make Lancelot Brain?

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAHAH!!!

I like the way you think. ;)

[identity profile] mysecretashes.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha. I used to love Inspector Gadget. :D

We have a 'no tv' rule in the mornings. It's hard enough to get them out the door without the tv on. D:

[identity profile] leashy-bebes.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
omg YES. *high five* A lot of the time it's all I can think of when I watch Merlin.

[identity profile] jtsbbsps-dk.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets*

>.< I'm really glad that I almost can't remember it. BUT NOW THE THEME SONG COMES BACK! x.x

[identity profile] leashy-bebes.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Blue-eyed, posh, slightly dim but really good hearted layabout who is regularly rescued from romantic entanglements by dark haired, cleverer-than-his-master-realises valet with mysterious powers of genius.

...the parallels just draw themselves, really :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
*High fives back*

I'd like to say that Arthur is less oblivious, but it would be a lie.

[identity profile] wordflake.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Badapadada Inspector Gadget! Badapadada WOHO. Badapadada Inspector Gadget!/ Badapadada Inspector Gadget! Badapadada WOHO. Badapadada Inspector Gadget!/ Go Gadget go! Badapadada badapadada. Go Gadget go!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's just... begging to be slashed, isn't it? ;)

I love british tv.

The TV is a great motivator in this house. TV is on while they eat, then it goes off until they are dressed and ready to go - it's amazing how fast they can move it to get to catch the last 10 minutes of a show. :D

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
UR EVIL!!!!!! PURE EVIL!!!!

[identity profile] leashy-bebes.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It IS. It's practically canon. They have passive aggressive arguments via the mechanism of Jeeves throwing out any clothes he doesn't approve of (e.g. a white mess jacket he thought 'had been placed in your wardrobe by your enemies, sir') and Bertie buying successively more horrendous ties. Husbands, husbands, husbands.

J&W slash is some of my favourite slash in the world. The Wodehouse-ian language is absurd and wonderful and when ficcers get it right it's so, so wonderful. One of the first Merlin fics I read was in the style of a J&W story, and I think it had a lot to do with me falling for this fandom.

...you shouldn't have got me started, haha ;)

[identity profile] wordflake.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Go Gadget go!

Sorry? Did you say something?

[identity profile] planejane.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sending you a large dose of brain bleach, before you go and watch the film and have Matthew Broderick imprinted on your eyelids, too.

[identity profile] copa-cetic.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to watch that cartoon. And now have the song stuck in my head.

[identity profile] frost.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Heehee, I love that cartoon! :D
I hope I don't start seeing it, too, though...

Oh. The theme is now stuck in my head... >:|

I don't watch Merlin (yet)
But this still makes me giggle (LOTS!)

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
ahah! I've never seen the movie! Is there a 'Penny' in it? is she a niece still?

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
hee! oops! sorry. :)

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The theme is now stuck in my head...
*snickers*

*hums a few bars*

:DDD

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
hee! It's a cruel, cruel comparison. But if the shoe fits. ;)

[identity profile] shes-gone.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
oh god hahahahhahaha

[identity profile] sheswatching.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LOLIRL. This is the best post ever.

[identity profile] superfluous-emi.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And now the theme's in my head forever.

Hubby and I are fond of saying "go go gadget arm" when reaching for something. Because we are twelve.

One memorable time he actually said "Go go gadget cock". That was interesting. :D

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
IKR???

:D

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)

I CAN'T UNSEE!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
