Title Snowed In
Author:
marguerite_26
Summary: Through the cave opening Merlin could see the snowflakes dance between the trees, thick and white against the black night.
Rating: G (pre-slash)
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Warning: none
Word Count: 200 (exactly!)
Author's notes: for
lullabylily who requested Merlin/Arthur, snowed-in, and 200 words. Thank you to
lolafiest for the beta. <3
Through the cave opening Merlin could see the snowflakes dance between the trees, thick and white against the black night. “Pretty,” he breathed.
“Deadly.” Arthur leaned across Merlin, grabbed a stick and jabbed at their small fire. Their sopping clothes were laid out on a boulder by the fire in hopes they might be dry by morning. Should Merlin and Arthur survive the night, they would need them for the trudge back to Camelot. The scraps of their meagre dinner had been set aside for breakfast. They needed to think ahead, Arthur had explained.
They’d laid their bedrolls one atop the other, but the cold of the stone floor seeped through. Merlin shivered, burrowing further under Arthur’s fur-lined cloak they shared as a blanket.
“You’re not to die tonight, Merlin.” Arthur poked at Merlin’s shoulder as though Merlin was insubordinate enough to die just to spite his master. “Do you hear me?”
“Yes, Sire.” Arthur’s arm pulled him close; he could feel Arthur’s heart beating at his back, the tickle of chest hair between his shoulder blades, and the warm breath at his nape. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
When he shivered again, it had nothing to do with the cold.
