So. Much. To. Say.

I don't even know where to start. My birthday was fabulous. Actually, my b-day was kinda crap but YOU GUYS MADE IT FABULOUS. I can't thank you enough.

I'll write up a big thank you post very soon but for now I just want to point you guys to some absolutely stunning art.

Straddling both HP and Merlin fandoms is hard. It's really annoying for my flist who is only interested in 50% (at the very most) of my posts, and for close friends it's harder because there's always that fear of drifting away and yeah... we all know it happens. So to have roma_fics (an HP writer) commission stellamoon (an HP artist - who does love Merlin but has never drawn in that fandom) to draw me something from Merlin is just... fucking amazing to me. In a way it's selfless. It's encouraging me in my New Shiny, knowing that my wandering attention means less time for HP. My HP reading and reccing and betaing and writing - they've all suffered greatly from my Merlin reading and reccing and betaing and writing. I've tried for balance but that just means less of both. Which is better than none of one and lots of the other. But it still sucks, either way.

Still - This gift said to me I have friends who are supporting me beyond sharing a fandom together and yeah... that brought me to tears yesterday. so thank you to both roma_fics and stellamoon for being amazing friends that I know I will have for years to come no matter which fandom I call home. ♥

Fanart of actors is so complicated. In a way, you want them to look like the actors but yet... we have pictures (and lots of them!) for that. Drawings that look 'identical' to the actors really are lovely, but what I LOVE about this art is that this is Stella's Merlin. He's not Colin but he has the feel of Colin as Merlin. He's younger, has an innocence to him, with bright, eager eyes and that quirk of a smile. His face is softer, like he hasn't quite grown into the man Camelot will make him. And a falcon (a Merlin falcon!) on his shoulder. I just... I adore birds of prey. When I was younger I would read books upon books, everything I could get my hands on about birds of prey. They mesmerize me. And to have a young Merlin with a falcon friend is such a wonderful image. An excellent choice for the portrait and very fitting for the character.

Now I just need to wait until noon when the mail arrives to get the package! :D

I don't mind you straddling two fandoms if there're gorgeous art like this for me to ogle at! ♥ I find Colin nice looking and charming but not gorgeous *ducks tomatos*, but Stella's Colin is something else.... he still looks like Colin, definitely, but there is a soulfulness and .... I dunno, brightness (as in light / magic, not smartness) in him that I don't get to see in photos of the actor.

The art is just... wow. And yes, it's Colin, but not. And I love that it doesn't feel like it's and 'attempt at Colin' it looks like and 'interpretation of Colin's Merlin' I love that so much more than a replica of a Colin photo-op, you know?

I think it's a combination of seeing my good friends happy and the squee that makes me happy. Plus I'm those people who tend to not jump into things until I see it done by people I love and trust. I'm really comfortable with seeing Merlin and Arthur (and Colin/Brad) all over my flist these days. They look like they belong :).

Stella's fanart are always a wonder if how unique they are despite the source being well known. I wish I have squeed at her more for how awesome and GOOD she is ♥
