Crack Broom changes

[livejournal.com profile] crack_broom made a pretty cool announcement today (well... from my perspective, at least*) details of the changes here

Stuff I'm extra pleased about:
Albus Severus/Scorpius, Rose/Scopius have been moved to 'permanent' status. That means they get their own reccer each month, and the reccer of Next Gen will now concentrate on all the other lovely NG pairings. It's a big change, tbh!

The other things is an increase in the number of rare pair reccers (which is where you ask to rec a particular rare pair for an entire month) and rarest reccer (which is where you have a month to rec ANY rare pair for that month). I've been sitting in the rarest reccer queue since april, 2009! I think I should my add my name to the end of that queue just to hold my spot for 2011. lol.

As someone who is an utter pairing whore, I just adore [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom. It takes time and research and a bit of balls to stand up there for a month and pick 4-8 recs of a pairing and declare to quite a huge comm that you're reccing them a fic or art. But you know what? it works. People look at [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom recs. They notice recs that interest them and are often willing to try something new (either pairing or genre or author) based on a rec. I love that. It's a bit of a bridge across pairings and corners of fandom.

If you are interested in reccing, here are the Gate-way sign-ups. You can rec by pairing (just add you name to the queue and you'll get a comment when your time comes up).

As an aside: I am up for Harry/Draco in August! woot!

On a completely different topic, if you've got a fic about to post for One Plot, Many Pairings, please note my Friday wrap up is going up first thing tomorrow if you want to be on it.

*Yes, I know I'm totally ignoring the firestorm of comments on that CB post, but I've fought my own battles for my own pairings. This time I am staying well out of it. :D

In other news, I finally broke down and changed my setting to default to ?style=mine. It's amazing how happy this has made me. I love of my large font and black on white.

The comments over there are scaring me a little! Haha! I'm sure the changes weren't made lightly, and the mods know best. *bows*

Very excited for what it means for next gen though :)

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, not so nice. :/ *pets mods*

As I'm totally uninvested in the stuff that's causing the unhappiness, I'll just spread the word about the good. It really has the potential to change the reccing that we see. It'll be interesting to see how it all looks in the coming months.

[identity profile] okydoky.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I do care, and I guess I can see where people are coming from as I'd be gutted if H/D got 'demoted'... but I don't have a solution lol. Hopefully will mean more reccers for those pairs now though :)

[identity profile] drcjsnider.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The only permanent pairings I ever really cared about were r/hr and d/hr so i really didn't care what happened... i do wonder if there really is enough d/g to make it perm pair though...

[identity profile] shiv5468.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Snerk. Me, I'd just make sure there were a shitload of sign ups for the ship I wanted to ressurect back from rare pair. In fact, when we realise our ship was getting a bit weak, that's what we did!

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we did the same for H/D a few months back. Sometimes people think the queues are always forever long for the 'big name ships' but they get low. and reccers need poking.

*poke* *poke* *poke*

LOL.

[identity profile] shiv5468.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Non-participation is not cured by the mods doing more work. Ever.

The simplest solution is for the flyer to check the queue at the end of their turn and report back to their ship com if more sign ups are needed.

*nods*
I am pretty sure Snarry will be up as a permanent pairing in no time. :)

[identity profile] drcjsnider.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so glad to see nextgen get some more love over at crack_broom... the only thing that would have made me happier was to get a cross-gen category too...

[identity profile] ineffably-roma.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
ditto and thank you Maggie for suggesting it.

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, if a cross-gen category was allowed as one month rare pair option I would be even more happy. I don't know that there are enough next-gen cross-gen fics to support a permanent pairing. (at least not long-term).

[identity profile] drcjsnider.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... the only time i ever rec'd cross-gen there was the one month I was rarest-rec'r... also did a Rose/Draco/Scorpius when I did threesomes... but otherwise... it is HARD to find 4+ stories of Rose/Draco or LilyLuna/Draco to sign up for a rarepair...

[identity profile] scabbyfish.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking forward to the increase in rarepair recs and Scorpius/Rose for sure! :D Disappointed to see Snarry go down - but, well, it doesn't seem like it'll stay there for long and I have no room to complain as I am too wimpy/undedicated to sign up, heh. Feeling sorry for the mods, though, it's a little scary over there right now D:

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods*

and *meep* yes. it got icky pretty quick. :(

[identity profile] scabbyfish.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I found it a bit sad to see, tbh :( I mean, I can understand the disappointment but - yeah, I dunno. The mods handled it well, though, I thought.

Also! I hadn't considered that having Scorpius/Rose and ASS as regular pairings will mean different pairings from the next-gen reccers - hurrah! *roots for more Teddy & James recs*

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for changes! And yikes about the Snarry!

Last week's fic - the one that didn't get posted - wanted to become a 20K novella. *headdesk* Round 2 ... yawn. Went off in a direction I hated. Scrapped it. Round 3 ... wrote it. Finished all 3500 words of it. Read it. *facepalm* Am still editing it. Hope to post tonight, depending on how cringe-worthy Alaana thinks it is. *sigh*

Please to be explaining to me how, after this long in fandom, I seem to have forgotten the basic no-Apparating-in-Hogwarts rule? And that is but a mere sample of the excellence this story has unleashed. *cries*

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY you for getting your fic done!!! *hugs*

I cannot wait to read it!!! I have it on my MUST READ list for after my Travel Fair fic gets written. *cries*

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)

It was apparently not as cringe-worthy as I thought. All hail the mighty beta! *g*

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I wrote and scrapped several comments to your post because they were too sarcastic, and it's not like you relegated my OtP to rarepair status. *hugs*
I just hope you never have to see H/D relegated in a similar way.

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, hon. I really do feel for folks that have felt slapped by all this. I'm just trying to stay out of it because I do see both sides of the situation but I did feel like I had to talk to my flist about the stuff that affected next gen.

H/D was really low in reccers (like almost empty!) a few months ago and was at risk of being made a rare pair so a bunch of us had to throw our names in. I wouldn't want to see it happen to H/D or to Next Gen or the the new AS/S - but frankly I wouldn't be surprised ... it's hard to keep queues filled consistantly.

I imagine that Snarry will be easily be back in December. *hugs*

(and thanks for scrapping the earlier comments. ILU ♥)

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
(*g* I can sometimes self-edit. Sometimes)

For a split second I considered signing up to rec there but then sanity took over again. It always stresses me out to rec, and really, I'm primarily a writer, so I think I'll stick with that (lest people start talking about how Snarry is dead again - I swear, we really can't win).

I hope you're right about December, but I dunno. Apparently the mods don't especially appreciate Snape, and since the rules seem to be fairly arbitrary, who's to say they won't change the criteria again then? *shrug*

Now I'm just waiting for Harry/Squid to be promoted to permanent status. LOL.

[identity profile] sesheta-66.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* I will admit to immediately thinking of you when I read that. ♥

I know I have read several pairings that I normally will not touch with a fifty-foot pole, solely because they were recced on CB. I think it's an incredible resource and the mods have consistently done a fantastic job with it.

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too. I love poking around the CB tags page and seeing what insanity I can find. ;)

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
How wonderful to see AS/S become a regular pairing. ♥ And really, Snarry will be back up there in no time.

In other news, I finally broke down and changed my setting to default to ?style=mine. It's amazing how happy this has made me. I love of my large font and black on white. It's a whole different LJ experience!!!!! I can't believe how long I squinted at tiny unreadable font.

*nods nod*
Innit great? I have been doing that for months now and I LOVE it. :)

so many less headaches. it's unbelievable! ♥
