Canadian, Plz

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] aldehyde

Canadian, Please - hee! love it. Also damn song is stuck in my head now. :)

and then some arse made racist comments about the guy in that vid and this the fabulous response: he'll never be a real canadian.

And of interest to no one, but fits with this er rather patriotic theme which sort of came out of nowhere, I found this this morning and I teared up watching it: CFL This is Our League I ♥ the Canadian Football League. I try to never miss a game.

lallala - carry on.

While I'm not a Canadian (American and we're close because its attached), I also disapprove of racist remarks. Each country has its good points and bad points.

Canada is awesome! Think of all the wonderful things associated with it - Maple Syrup, Anne of Green Gables, Michael J. Fox, the Mounties, Hockey, The Kids in the Hall, etc.

Okay, probably a stupid comment but I hate to see people downing other countries. I could easily point out beneficial and negatives on each. Some people are just frustrating!

I agree completely, and I hope that's not what you thought I was doing here. I didn't think it was an anti-american vid or anti-any other country. Just a silly little song with a bit of truths mixed in - like I don't think we have the world monopoly of trees. LOL! but a canadian did discover insulin. :D

So I would certainly enjoy a similar song about any other country (though likely not as much). ;)

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that you were being racist. I thought your post was simply, "I enjoy this about my country".

I was referring to your mentioning, "and then some arse made racist comments about the guy in that vid" That always annoys me. I was raised to believe, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Not that I never voice a frustration, just I try to do it politely when I do.

I'm fine with my country, I'm happy to live here but I can accept that it's imperfect and other countries are better in some ways and mine is better in others.

*hugs*

awesome. just making sure! :D

yeah, the remark was stupid - implying that a non-white person was not a good representative of a country that is incredibly multi-cultural. *eyerolls*

I love the Canadian song! I have very close ties with Canada, and have spent quite a bit of time on both coasts. I love that country, beautiful, and any country that curls and not just for Winter Olys = WIN.

Well, you know that Canada has received a lot of people from the city I grew up in the 90s, and I remember hearing, when I was little, how that mass influx of people caused some tension at that time. I think there will always be this type of comments, usually made those who feel the immigrants have "stolen" their opportunities when it was more likely due to their own ineptness and/or attitude. The perpetuators of racism are surely rude and ignorant, but I'm also sadly aware that no matter how fluent my English is, no matter how many years I have held a US passport and cheered for Americans... if this country someday runs into hardship, if resources somehow become scarce, we who are easily identified by our colour will likely be the first to be considered outcast, even if the law will protect us from having our rights denied. While internet comments like the ones in Andrew's page are awful, it's ... kind of a reality check as well. :(
