Can someone explain to me (in small words because I have not had my coffee yet) what they believe Pottermore is going to be about?

Yup, I agree it just sounds like she's just not ready to leave, though in the process she's essentially creating a new way of experiencing a book post-publishing. sort of a dvd-extra type of thing where you push up sale after everything is said and done but giving little 'gifts' to fans. :)

And yeah - I think this might be kinda cool. Might be .. nothing much of interest but idek - I still think it's pretty cool to learn bits and bobs of characters.

but I wonder if slash of the pg level will be allowed if het is.
I doubt it. Maybe if canon has character as gay, but taking a 'portrayed as straight' character and portraying them as gay would likely not be acceptable in that type of forum. :/

I understand what you mean, and I know a lot of people feel that way. They are ready to move on (or have moved on) and I guess they are looking for JKR and others to do the same?

But everyone moves on at their own pace - and even then, sometimes never. Look at the Star Wars franchise. Lucas continues to find depth in that universe that no one would have thought possible 20 years after he'd 'finished'. While the quality of what gets 'added on' to canon is debatable - if it keep fandom thriving and those that are in it enjoying themselves, and helps new people fall in love with HP for the first time, then I'm going to celebrate it. :)

Ah, I don't mind them doing it at all. I pretty much agree with you on the new stuff being good and stirring things up a little. I just don't think JKR is doing it for philantrophic reasons ;)

Anyways I'll be back in October to check the site out and I'm also kinda looking forward to some backstory and stuff. Maybe there'll be more outings ;D

You're absolutely right about that. If there are people who are still finding fresh ideas and are falling in love with the canon material, then this is something that will definitely be a good thing. (Also, really there is new Star Wars canon? I feel so out of the loop.) It's like they way I look at LoTR. The Hobbit is going to bring a whole new batch of canon to the screen, and I expect there will be a huge resurgence of interest there when that comes out. The cool thing about that is that there's a whole new plot and lots of new characters. If there turns out to be a whole host of new information in Pottermore, then that might pull me back and get me interested. (I'm a sucker for backstory) :-) But if it's just dribs and drabs and it's difficult to get to, while it may be the perfect kind of challenge for some, I don't know if it would be for me.

That said, I will ALWAYS adore the Potterverse. I don't care what the critical critics say, the stories are wonderfully engaging and I will always love them, even if I don't read them again. It's like the Little House books when I was a kid. I LIVED in those books for YEARS, but when the time came that I moved on, I kept them in my heart even though I never read them again.
