Oh, I totally get the simplicity being a turn off. It can be a bit ridiculous and repetitive. Which pretty much drives me insane, but the awesomeness of Merlin/Arthur kept me watching. I adore their dynamic. The power imbalance that is evened out with Merlin's magic. The lies that just hang there between them that might never be forgiven. *flails*

And this is where the series is a GIFT to muses. It's so full of opportunity, everything just waiting to happen, waiting to be revealed, acted upon. I watch each ep and I have a dozen plot bunnies attack me. And the FIC! lord, there is great, epic, porny, clever fic. It's a gold mine. And yet... so very different from what I like in HD. In HD and kinda don't like fluff much. But here - IDEK but I can't get enough of it. weird.

Now Uther!!! Uther in the show is lulz, except for the couple episodes were there are flashes of absolute brilliance in his characterisation. BUT OMG! UTHER IN MY BRAIN IS BRILLIANT. I love him so much, it's not even funny. The guy that will smile at you and shake your hand with utter sincerity and whisper a promise to cut off your head should you fuck up. *shivers* Rutheless and focused and means to an end kind of guy.

I think -- I HOPE -- that we will see more solid and consistent characterisation throughout the 3rd season (which will start in Sept), but what I really, really hope is that they continue to give us inspiration. :D

Hm, that's some good points (See, that's why I enjoy being explained a fandom by a person involved - they make me think ways I didn't see :)). their dynamic. The power imbalance that is evened out with Merlin's magic - that's sweet, and I agree, it makes for an interesting combination to explore. What I love about slash has always been about equality (H/D only work for me when their rivalry is more or less balanced), and I also liked this spark about Arthur and Merlin.

Hehee you certainly make me curious for the fic out there! IDK, I can only bear the fluff when it's 'establish relationship' scenarios - otherwise I'm all with you (that's why I love your H/D...they are so delishly angst-ridden!)

OK so where does Uther in your brains come from? Other novel-historic sources (like "Mists of Avalon", which I read years ago, and I recall perceiving Uther very differently back then), or only the ideas the series gave you? Then I don't know whether it's me / you, or the fact that I didn't give him enough of a chance; but in the episodes I watched, he mainly annoyed me. The guy that will smile at you and shake your hand with utter sincerity and whisper a promise to cut off your head should you fuck up. - put like that, it does indeed sound intriguing. Only I never managed to shake this idea of, He has power to threaten. He should have power to act.
But I see what you mean, and a controversial character is likely a good character.

So there have been 2 seasons so far? And how many are planned overall?
