This is not a recipe, but it is something that seems to be uniquely New Zealand; Kiwiburgers.

(No actual kiwis are harmed in the making of this 'recipe').

  • Make a burger.

  • Before you pile on lettuce, lightly fried onions, and thick slices of beefsteak tomato, but after you put on any melted cheese slices (if you like them) add several slices of drained, tinned beetroot.

  • Sometimes we put pineapple slices on it too.


  • You have to gobble them up quickly, which usually gives you indigestion, otherwise the bun goes soggy and everything falls on your lap or dribbles down your arm.

    Usually these are eaten with massive, thick-cut wedges.

    *shrugs* We're a strange people.
