Sticky Post for the Self-Pimping Rec list

I am a little lame and idealistic. But I hope people will participate in this anyway because I want to read your fics but I want you to make it easy on me.

A Self-Pimping Rec List

[livejournal.com profile] bryoneybrynn wrote a post early this week welcoming people to name artists and writers they love who have not ‘made it big’. These are the wonderful people of fandom that toil to create quality fic and art but are not always the first people to get the awards, to get on the top of rec lists, you know who I mean.

These are the people in fandom that need an extra little pat on the back because the HP fandom is huge and many talented people get loved by a devoted few but passed-by by many simply because their name is not recognized.

The comments in that post are an amazing collection of such talent. I have poked around at a few new names and found a few fics lists but frankly it is not easy to figure out where to start. This got me thinking!

I would like to invite any writer or artist (whether they are named in the comments byroney’s post or not) to pimp themselves here.

Ideally I would like to see the following:
- Your username
- 2 fics/works of art (your most popular and your personal favourite)
- Please include proper links, with pairings, ratings and any warnings (summaries if you wish).

I really hope people will not be shy and will add their names so we call discover a few authors/artists that are new to us. I would like to see links from people who have only one or two stories (art) and people who already have quite and archive (even if you are already considered 'well-read' I would love to know which fic is your personal favourite!)

Ohh, I loved The World of The Living, and I loved From the Ashes even more.
One of these days I will have to leave comments for all the fics I read and loved when I was still a shy anonymous lurker...

[identity profile] stellamoon.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh. I thought you were referring to ONE link, so I was curious. I didn't mean to be fishing, really. LOL.

Thanks so much for your kind words. If anyone knows about "...a simple moment, so packed full of passion.", it's you!

[identity profile] stellamoon.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! And thanks for checking them out.

[identity profile] abusing-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope it's not too late to self-pimp! :p (I'm sick...)

Anyway, the stories of mine that aren't loved enough and should be loved more, imho, are...

Words That Tear and Strain to Rhyme (http://abusing-sarcasm.livejournal.com/58279.html)
Pairings: AS/S, unrequited Rose/Scorpius
Rating: R-ish
Summary: Rose Weasley normally has a way with words. And a way of being stupid, but it's usually alright.

If You Can Make It There (http://abusing-sarcasm.livejournal.com/79012.html)
Pairings: AS/S, H/D
Rating: PG-13?
Summary: The Potter men take Scorpius and Draco along on their annual summer holiday. Scorpius has a crush, Albus has a plot, and Harry and Draco have some disagreements.

Well, why not?

[identity profile] aki-hoshi.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] aki_hoshi is me!

I feel kind of lame, doing this, and not because of the self-pimpage part...but because I'm not really prolific, and the only two substance-bearing fics I've really written are WiPs, so it seems kind of silly to tell people to go read them...but [livejournal.com profile] aldehyde told me I should do it anyhow, maybe so more people will get on my case about finishing them! :D

I don't know which one is more popular...one is longer, and been around longer, so has more reviews, but I think this one is possibly more popular...

Original Sinn (http://www.aki-hoshi.com/original_sinn/original_sinn.html)
Pairing: Harry/Draco, H/OC (as the prompt implies)
Rating: R - NC-17, for graphic sex and language
Summary: Harry and Draco had a mission. It was simple. Find out who stole the artefact, and get it back from the Muggle fencing it. Not as simple as it sounds, when you both hate each other with a passion, and the Muggle starts falling for your straight partner, who you need to help handle the Muggle Gay Scene. And what happens when you start falling for him too?
Warnings: None, really. (This one has one chapter left, and a possible sequel.)
A/N: Written for the Two Broomsticks Fic-A-Ton Challenge, Fall 2006. Written after HBP - ignores DH and Epilogue
Prompt: HP/DM. "Everything is working out according to the plan and that IS the effing problem!!" Post-war. Harry and Draco are Aurors/cops and have to work on a mission together. Part of said mission consists in catching some bad guy to get something from him. In order to do so, it is decided that Harry would seduce him and gain his trust. The guy starts falling for Harry, but he's not the only one... Draco does too. How will he deal with the newfound attraction?

And here's my favourite. I'm not sure why I like it more, but I do, somehow, even though it's given me more headaches in regards to plot than I'd really like to think about!

The Bet (http://www.aki-hoshi.com/thebet/bet.htm)
Pairing: Harry/ Draco, H/OC, D/OC, R/Hr, G/SF, L/N
Rating: PG-13-R, but NC-17 for certain chapters
Summary:Slight AU. Post-war. It all started with a little bet. Draco Malfoy has never been one to back down from a perfectly do-able bet. But when that bet involves Harry Potter? Draco is realising that this bet is not as cut and dry as it seems, nor as easy...
Warnings: Um...a lot of OC screen time? They're not Mary-Sue-ish, I promise.
A/N:This was written pre-HBP. Harry and Ginny never got together. This has about ten more chapters. I know there's a lot of OC screen-time, and I don't really want to qualify why I wrote it a certain way, I just did, and that's all there is to it. I really tried to write this as a reflection of the way life really works - that nothing's ever perfect, and people fuck up all the time (though this fic isn't dark at all). Also, this was my first real attempt at writing HP fanfiction, so the first few chapters are blah to me, but I'm in the process of revising all of what's written so far.

Er...enjoy?

Love the new layout for your journal! Very easy on the eyes and tasteful in the extreme.

Peace,

Why is this so embarrassing? lol.

Most Popular: Ring A-Ring O' Roses (http://melusinahp.livejournal.com/338139.html) -- my HD_WC fic.

My favourite is probably a fic which is currently anon, but the last fic I've written is usually my favourite. Maybe All the Things of the World (http://melusinahp.livejournal.com/300985.html).
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 7,190
Warnings: bloodplay, underage sex
Summary: Regulus/Draco. Pureblood, Seeker, Death Eater, Black. Draco's mirror shows him more than expected.

Definitely not my most popular, probably because of the blood play warning, lol)

Sorry for coming to the party late. This was really hard to do. The Harry(s) and Draco(s) in my head kept arguing in which ones they thought they were best in. :) All stories listed are NC-17 and please note warnings if you click the links.

I have a major soft spot for Double Edged Sword, as it was my first and most epic in scope, but I think my most popular is Survival of the Species (http://romaine24.livejournal.com/21394.html) on LJ
Survival of the Species (http://www.thehexfiles.net/viewstory.php?sid=9676) on The Hex Files 49k.
I mean what's not to love about a post-epilogue creature!fic that also features dragons?

My most deprived of love, is Vanishing Cabinets (http://romaine24.livejournal.com/56794.html) 18k Summary: Take one Wizarding Family Values politician who has a secret life, and add one Auror who detests discrimination of any type, but becomes a bit obsessed with said politician, and you have enough sparks to ignite a Beltane fire. This was written for hds_beltane.

And my current favourite is Possession of the Heart (http://community.livejournal.com/hp_cross_fest/18806.html) 52k. It proved to me that I could write a long story about another pairing besides h/d and believe in them. It is Harry/Scorpius. Summary: Harry loves his life and would never want it to change. But when violence upsets the very foundations of his world, he finds himself turning to the one person whose heart he's protected from the start.

edit: I'm done now!

"All of the Things of the World" was incredible. ♥

[identity profile] moonlite-tryst.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Most popular seems to be After the Ballet is Over (http://lusiology.livejournal.com/92495.html) Hard R

“And I double dare you, Harry, to tell me right here, right now, what you fantasise about while you wank off in your little office." He leaned closer and murmured, "While you fuck yourself with your hand.”

Written for last years Beltane, my current fave, due to it stretching my writing of dialogue and description, is Draco's Inferno (http://hds-beltane.livejournal.com/49646.html#cutid1). Hard R

Following a desperate plea from an old friend, Draco finds himself at the Head Auror’s door and embarks on a journey that will lead him through his own inferno.

*loves*

[identity profile] pir8fancier.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, most popular would be Snape: the Home Fries Nazi (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=12372&chapter=1&font=&size=). Hands down.

My personal favorite? I would say the two stories that kill me when I read them (as in *I* start crying): This Boy's Life (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=14247&chapter=1&font=&size=) (which is Snarry), and Let's Pretend the War Is Over (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=11613&chapter=1&font=&size=). Let's Pretend has more of me in there than any other story. I wrote it climbing out of my own depression. This Boy is one of those stories where you just know you're hitting all the right notes. Plus, talk about tooting my own horn. I nailed many of the plot points that surfaced in the seventh book regarding Lily and Snape.

Now you want something different, take you out of your safe little world? Read my Pirates of the Caribbean story Your Move (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=8844&chapter=1&font=&size=). It was my first real "epic" and I just finished it. If you need any more incentive, there's strip chess. And hot sex.

I'm half through Your Move now! OMG! I could just eat your Norrington. yummy.

(and thanks!)

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It is completely by accident, I assure you. :D

My custom layout crashed and when I removed the problem link, this is what appeared. *g*

[identity profile] pir8fancier.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Many people tell me that they never got sparrington until they read this story. If you really want to read THE BEST POTC story in the fandom, read this one, the Moonverse (http://www.squidge.org/horizon/library/multi/moonverse/index.html) by [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter. My "james" was certainly inspired by her treatment, as was [livejournal.com profile] commodoresexual's Matter of Rules series (also worth reading). These are considered "epics" in POTC fandom.

[identity profile] marguerite-26.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
!!!

You are not allowed to convert me to PotC in a HP fic rec post! You are pure ev0l!

*bookmarks anyway because I am weak*

(and that moment when James describes Sal and Jack is all FTW! You had my eternal devotion - if you didn't before, which I'm pretty sure you did. and the erotic treatment of those Queens. *melts* I'm going to blush everytime I see a chess set!)

[identity profile] pir8fancier.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
POTC is currently a fandom in turmoil, however, you cannot go wrong (in addition to those above), with anything written by [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth and [livejournal.com profile] penknife. And then there's my Jack/Will stuff...

[identity profile] emansil-08.livejournal.com 2008-11-16 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Can't do much self-pimping as only one story posted to Ass_fest and others still waiting posting. Other stories are currently residing in the home of betas. (I'm new)

But I can say I'am getting ready to bookmark this and print this out so I'll have the names and links to all the great fics here. When I'll have time to read I don't know. I'm sure going to try though.

Great idea

I'd like to pimp a journal I've discoverd lately:

[livejournal.com profile] spidermoth sews such amazing HP world dolls. Go have a look and shower her with compliments. :-)))

Pfft! No complaining. I know you hate Harry in that one but Draco is so fricking beautiful - the curve of his neck and the line of his back! But if it really embarrasses you, I'll switch it out for Peacock Dreams - you know how I adore Draco (and Harry) in that one.

[identity profile] bryoneybrynn.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes! Super!Aurors is still my very favourite - as you well know!

[identity profile] bryoneybrynn.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes! I love these dolls. Did you see her latest - lupin?

[identity profile] bryoneybrynn.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, finally well enough to play again. *hugs you for doing all this*

Most popular - easily "He Was He and I Was Bunny" which makes me happy because I think it's one of my best written pieces and definitely my best Draco.

He Was He and I Was Bunny
http://bryoneybrynn.livejournal.com/30728.html#cutid1
Summary: The war is over and “eighth year” is about to begin at Hogwarts. But for Harry and Draco, nothing is quite the same. Harry’s looking for an escape, Draco’s looking for a friend. Does a little black bunny hold the answers for both of our boys?
Keywords: Rating: NC-17, Chaptered, Romance, Angst, Smut

As for my favourite, well, it's definitely "Certain Dark Things" but since that's a looooong WIP, I feel I should also offer up a shorter, finished fic, so I'll say "Yule Ball, Take Two." I love that story! Hee!

Certain Dark Things
http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=bryoneybrynn&keyword=Certain+Dark+Things&filter=all
Summary: The year following DH (8th year at Hogwarts fic). Harry and Draco both try to figure out life post-war. They end up thrown together by circumstance and an unlikely friendship forms. Then love and all that yummy slashy stuff. It’s a story about healing and learning to love and be loved.
Keywords: Rating: NC-17, WIP, Chaptered, Hogwarts-Era, Angst, Romance, Smut

Yule Ball, Take Two
http://bryoneybrynn.livejournal.com/9460.html#cutid1
Summary: It’s the Christmas following Voldemort’s defeat and Hogwarts is celebrating with a Yule Ball. Despite having his pick of anyone in the school, Harry finds himself sitting alone, thinking about a certain Slytherin…
Keywords: Rating: PG-13, One-shot, Hogwarts-Era, Romance, Humour, Angst (just a tiny bit)

I should add for those who don't know me, I also write as/s - these ones just all happened to be h/d.
